Re: Converting Sunburst II to yandem

... was paddled tandem on Ocoee by 2 ladies in a previous life. My wife and I started out in a regular Sunburst but soon found a Caption. The pocket canyon has much more volume, probably 3 or 4"wider at midpoint thus slower but very stable. The Sunburst feels comparably slippery and svelte

Re: Converting Sunburst II to yandem

I’d say yes, it’s probably been done.

Isn’t Esquif’s Pocket Canyon based on the Sunburst hull, and it’s a great tandem canoe!

The Sunburst ends are probably narrower.

Some folks list their emergency contact as "ICE - xxx". If this person did, you could call that number and they'd know who the phone belongs to.

Found - Phone in Labyrinth Canyon (11/25/20)

Found a phone in the river. Still works, I'll keep it on so someone can all it. If you lost one give it a ring, or call/text David at 515-783-4870.

In praise of the Blackfly Condor

... the Selway (classic Idaho multi-day trip Class IV) because he has the "golden permit". Selway is the hardest permit to get next to the Grand Canyon, or so he says. Yep, I wanna, but I just sold my big canoe and the put in date is less than 2 weeks out. Sigh. Probably won't happen. But I get ...

Re: Solo canoe capable of camping but also up to class II

I've not paddled either of the Esquif's. That being said I think the Pocket Canyon would be preferred if you want to have a tandem/solo canoe. From what I can tell the Pocket Canyon and Canyon are based on a Prospector and reshaped to give it more whitewater capability. ...

Re: Blue hole canoe

Its a Blue Hole Cumberland. Same hull as the Starburst, but with vinyl gunnels. Steve Scarborough design. Several other builders have also produced this great(est?) whitewater tandem tripper: Evergreen Starburst, Esquif Canyon, Nova Craft Moise.

You’re lucky to have it. Don’t sell it, paddle it!

Self Support canoe trip on the GRAND?

Hey, anyone know of if and when a grand canyon Self support Tandem canoe trip has been done? Just curious, I imagine someone has done it but wondering if there is a record of it?

Cheers

... speed of the Covert. We class the Agent as a creeker. When at Alf this year, I would have chosen to use a Covert on the Ocoee, and Little River Canyon then the Agent on the Citico and Little River (Smokeys), and I would have happily paddled either on the Middle Telico. (The levels on the Ledges ...
