Re: foam saddle modifications...
I can't speek to the box but I have a water bottle hole drilled out in the front of both my bulkhead equipped boats. I drilled it out with a 2.75" hole saw about 6" deep, then reemed it out with 40 grit so the water bottle fits in. The bottle stays in with friction, it's never come out. I've never b...

Re: Any real diff: wood or vinyl trim on Outrage X
I second the Gonzo's comments on weight. My Mike Yee outfitted wood gunnel Outrage sans deck plates is lighter than my buddies bulkhead outfitted vinyl gunnel Zephyr

Re: Any real diff: wood or vinyl trim on Outrage X
The current Outrages don't have the same shape as the old ones. However, I really question how much drier that bending of the gunnels really made the boats. That being said, for the differential in cost I would still go wood for the light weight and good looks. I'm 220 and paddle the std Outrage. I ...

Re: Removing saddle
I wouldn't worry too much about wrecking the foam on the bottom of the saddle. It's going to look chewed after its out but it doesn't matter, I've transferred one saddle between 3 different boats using the classic putty knife removal technique and it stayed fine each time. The only way to get a fres...

Re: Throw Rope Thoughts?
I like the Beluga compact bag with 70' of 5/16" spectra. It comes with a belt so it can be worn around the waist and like Jim points out the quick release is off to the side. The rope should have enough strength should you ever need to set up a small drag with it. I'm still a bit paranoid of swimmin...

Re: Thoughts on a Blue Hole Sunburst
I had a Sunburst II I used as a solo tripping boat. It took me down the Pekans/Moisie, Pontax and some other big northern rivers. My impressions - great speed and carrying capacity, so-so manuverability was and kinda wet - there was almost a tumblehome at the gunnels at the bow. If the original vers...

Re: Warm Feet
I wear a thin polypro sock under heavy wool socks with neoprene boots over. I find adding that thin polypro somehow adds a lot more warmth. I'm fine down to the freezing mark like this. I don't go out in sub zero. Failing this I'd go with the battery powered socks. They are not expensive and work we...

Re: Bulkhead mods for water bottle
I put a water bottle hole like that in my L'edge bulkhead. I used a hole saw to cut, then pulled the foam out with long needle nose pliers and repeated until I got to the proper depth. To adjust the size, I tapped sand paper around the hole saw and reemed it out until the water bottle fit snug. It w...

Re: Viper 12 advice?
The Vertige is nice for tripping - 2 50L barrels fit sideways. Very easy to load - no hiding gear under the bags and super dry/stable while running rapids loaded

Re: Spanish Fly bulkhead position
Neutral, yes that is what I thought. It will be a few weeks until I can get it into the water but I think I will be stern heavy in this position. I'm tall so adding foam to the back isn't much of an option, neither is repositioning the bulkhead forward as the thwarts really can't be moved in this de...

Spanish Fly bulkhead position
I just picked up a new Spanish Fly. The backrest of the bulkhead is 9" back from center. This seems a bit far back, at least compared to what I'm used to. Is this normal or good for this boat to be trimmed a bit bow light?

WTB: Taureau in Ontario
Looking for a Taureau for a friend of mine. If there is anyone going to ALF that has one for sale I can probably arrange a ride for it back to Ontario. Send me a PM if you have one you want to part with.
