Thanks, Wendy.
Yes, I was speaking of the ledge above the bridge extending from (RR).

French Broad Near Hot Springs

I was hiking the AT near the NOC take out in Hot Springs and saw a couple open boaters taking out there. I'm just passing through w/o boats and would like to know about this stretch of the river. I noticed that there was a wide river right keeper hole near the end there at least at this river level....

Re: River Elf C-1 Spray Skirts

Jim, I'm assuming by "rapid style", you are referring to the extra material extending beyond the bungee? Anything else that you all would like to see? I like the bungee on top with the fringe extending as shown. I only have one skirt of that style and it is the driest of those I have. I don't think...

Re: River Elf C-1 Spray Skirts

I like the "Rapid Style" of the skirt. I found that style to be much better at keeping water out on those long surfs that bury the bow.

Re: SPRAY SKIRTS

Snap Dragon is the only manufacturer I know of for skirts. The Atom is a standard size in their line of skirts. You will have to purchase through a local retailer though as they stopped selling direct a few years ago. The Bliss-Stick should also be a standard available size. Browse to their sight an...

Re: Recommendation for river runner C1

A friend converted a Prijon Boxer to C1 and it was his go to boat for years. I can't fit in it because of the cockpit shape vs my leg length but if you are under 5'8" you may find it a good all around river runner. The Boxer is about 10' in length which I think is the minimum for river running and b...

Re: Newbie outfitting questions for Mohawk XL 13

The Xl-13 was my first WW boat and I stopped paddling it 20 years ago when I switched to decked canoes. Never had a problem wet exiting that boat with foot pegs and thigh straps engaged. The saddle is too high. If you cut it down below 6" then I would be concerned but not at the stock saddle height....

A glass Cascade by Class Five boats.
Well there not showing any on their site at the moment but they did make it at one time. For a C1 their prices are very reasonable.

Re: C1 conversion bulkhead questions

The dilema is that unless you sit in a low saddle 6" or less straps or bulkhead alone won't keep you in the boat upside down. The issue with pegs is that as you describe. The solution in theory would be foot nubs. Something you can hold yourself in when you want but you can slide your toe off of whe...

Re: Shortening an H2O C1 Paddle

Since none have replied with the best method I'll suggest 'a' method. Note that I have not done this myself but am hoping that sbroam will chime in with the right way. First is to get a forstner bit just a bit smaller in diameter than the paddle shaft then with shaft in vice drill out the center of ...

Boaters, Asheville In April

We are heading to Asheville in April to visit family and get a taste of retirement. With the plan to do some easy trips on the French Broad in the sun in our tandem. I will have a C1 in tow and will have to evaluate once I'm down there how adventurous I want to be. I'd like to meet other boaters whi...

I recognise the tennis ball now. I just assumed it was a defect in the photo. The things that don't make it in the lore until you ask.

Re: S T R E T C H I N G

Another thing I do when it isn't so dam hot is evening flatwater runs on a local stream. It can be an hour or two. I set up a bike at the end point and then paddle down to it then ride back to the car. Doing this mid week on a weekly basis has helped with stamina and I tend to tolerate longer river ...
