There's a contingent of SW Ohio boaters going (yaks and canoes) for Saturday, doing the whole run. I'm tagging along with those folks.
I'm wondering if the term "cannon fodder" applies to myself?

Overkill
Admittedly, my system is overkill. Yes, I *am* a picky about it. The switch and wiring don't need to be waterproof, but this way it'll outlast my boat if not me. An unsealed switch or crimped connections *will* eventually fail in a wet environment. It's also why skipping a fuse is absolutely unaccep...

The battery box barely teetered the bathroom scale on 3.5 lbs. The pump is light enough that it doesn't register. I don't have a precision scale around here. I'll have to go through the receipts, but I'm thinking about $120 for the whole kit. Had I ordered most things from a single supplier, I could...

Pump system: What I cobbled together
I figured it was about time I cobbled together a pump system. I don't see it as a crutch, but something that'll allow me to put more energy into practicing instead of pumping. Let's face it, I'm gonna flip. Maybe I could have bought something pre-built cheaper, but where's the fun in that? Here's a ...

I s'pose it's pointless to add to this mess, but what the hades. I always wanted to get into canoing, but bought a decent used Dagger Blackwater Rec kayak kit because my friend started kayaking and I could afford the boat. I figured I'd never want to do rivers let alone whitewater, but got hooked th...

Honestly, I imagine quite a few folks would love to score a brand new boat, but the cost is prohibitive. Car payments, mortgage, braces for the kid. Old but serviceable hulls might help get people into the sport. It worked that way for me. I'll get a brand spanking new WW canoe eventually...when I d...

I'll let you in on a little secret. Any epoxy works for gluing stuff in a royalex boat or an R-lite boat. JKaz Glued directly to the vinyl or whatever R-lite skin is made out of or glued to the underlying ABS? I was surprised to find that the ABS layer in my R-Lite Rival is white. Don't ask me how ...

I have an old Royalex Blazer 16. While it's a great lake and calm river boat, I wouldn't consider running anything beyond light, occasional class II in it. It's a reasonably fast boat for what it is, but it's speed comes from a fine bow. Fine compared to a whitewater oriented boat at least. Problem ...

How long is the zip? I have a USAF nomex suit I Ebayed a while back that has a perfectly serviceable waterproof zip. It was a failed experiment at a cheap drysuit. Two tubes of aquaseal later and it just looks like I *issed myself all the time (thankfully have a real suit now). You're more than welc...
