Re: I need to demo some Millbrook boats.
Well, Hook, my Prodigy X is 1'6" longer than your Ocoee. I have one bar at the extreme front end of the factory rack tracks, and one at the extreme rear end of the tracks. They cannot be farther apart. I also have one in between, since I often carry kayaks on shuttle, with yak-stackers on the front ...

Re: So, will one of these Millbrook boats work for my trip?
OK, so I kept working until I was 70, so now that dream is out the window.
It was a good route, though. A good plan. Unfortunately age overtook me.

I need to demo some Millbrook boats.
I am 72 and it is getting too difficult for me to lift my ABS boat onto my Sprinter van, or even to carry it very far up from a take-out, so I am going to have John Kazimierczyk build me a new boat (it helps that I don't do anything above Class III any longer, so there is less chance I would break a...

Re: We've made boats wider, can we make them skinnier?
Back in the early '90s I did that with a Mohawk Whitewater 16 (which any of us today would refer to as a lake boat). I removed all the thwarts (except possibly the little carry-thwarts at the ends - I don't remember about them) and drew a lariat around the absolute middle of the boat. By tightening ...

Re: L'Edge or OCtane1 ?
Thanks, everyone, for the replies. Yeh, I get the "demo, demo, demo" idea, but there are no demo boats available near home, and, away from home, I am reluctant to drag my travelling companions around to wherever there might be an available demo, or give up a weekend of actual boating for a weekend o...

L'Edge or OCtane1 ?
I love my Prodigy Xs, but I'm thinking about getting a plastic creeker, though I'm not attracted to the tiny boats (Taureau, Ion, S. Fly, B'fly). The L'Edge and the Octane1 are about the same weight (61# & 59#, respectively, except I would get the undecked L'Edge which should be lighter than the dec...

Re: Retirement Boat. Suggestions?
Oki- I thought of suggesting the Prodigy X, but knew he'd have to find a used example. Do you think the Wenonah Recon might be similar, that is, fast for a ww boat, moderate rocker, low draft, good handling for its length? Dunno, EZ; I've never paddled one, and I'd never endorse something I've neve...

Re: Retirement Boat. Suggestions?
+1 to what EZ and Walsh said. I'd err on the lightweight / tamer design end of things. I got to try a Bell Flashfire in "black gold" years ago - what a beautiful, pleasant boat (they don't list that model now, though). I could see a Souhegan or AC/DC in my future, too... Scott, Bell is in limbo rig...

Re: Fast, Stable OC1 That's Less than 12 Feet in Length...
[quote="dcoc1"]Does such a boat exist?[quote]
I paddle the Prodigy X, which is longer than you want (12'8", I think), but it is all of that.
The regular Prodigy is probably as stable but slower, though it still might be relatively fast for a 12-footer.

Well just remember that when all the old guys are sittin around the spit and whittle cornor, you never hear one of them say "I wish I had spent more time at the office". Geez, Louie; that's because the ones wishin' thay had spent more time at the office aren't sittin' around spittin' and whittlin'....
