Re: Denver this weekend?

You might like Boulder Creek in Boulder, too. It's low, but runnable and could be jumping up soon.

Re: Denver this weekend?

Based on the weather forecast, a drysuit would be a great thing to be wearing.

Runs that come to mind would be Clear Creek from it's canyon mouth into the Golden play park or the Deckers/Chutes stretch of the S Platte.

Are you wanting to go open or decked?

Re: Denver this weekend?

There are whitewater runs flowing close to town now. We are having unusually cool and rainy weather.

What type of water and boat are you wanting? Are you bringing no personal gear?

Colorado Kanu Fest July 26 - August 3, 2014

In beautiful Buena Vista, CO., along the Arkansas River A fun long week of friends and paddling. Come for 1 day or 8. You choose. We hope to have a great, informal, gathering of like minded open boaters on the Arkansas River this summer. The goal of the week is to encourage open boaters to come disc...

Re: Anyone ever open boated the Selway?

Not the greatest picture and from a lower flow trip of me starting to paddle Ham Rapid. Guessing the flow was in the 2-3' range. Water wouldn't be clear if it was running +5'. Much more reasonable OC run when flows get below 3' since everything becomes pool drop. Wolf Creek has a long runout. https:...

Re: Anyone ever open boated the Selway?

Years ago I launched at 5.5', but feel it dropped to the mid-4' level by the time we got to Ladle. First day is fast with a few big holes. One caught me and I side surfed out of it upright. There was a great typewriter lateral on one of the upper rapids before Goat Creek. Goat Creek is impressive to...

Re: open and closed designs...history?

The fear of entrapment and the inability to master rolling are common reasons people chose to paddle an open canoe in whitewater. There’s also a need by some to distinguish themselves from kayakers that get blurred when C1ing. The sense of security given by a larger open hull is false once the boat ...

Re: Boat of the Week - Dagger Caption

Mohawk Probe 14’ is a similar canoe. Probe has more rocker so slower, but easier to turn. Rocker and bigger ends in the Probe probably make it dryer, too. Caption is a better looking design.

Re: Colorado in June

Not much boatable now, but that's normal. Snowpack in central and northern mtns is much better than last year, but still below normal. SW mtns are similar to last year. Animas and Piedra will run, but be done by June. Clear Creek above Golden will likely be runnable in June, but at a level hard on b...

Re: Monstar vs Flirt Large for big guy

I paddled a large Flirt for a few years at 190 lbs. I'm not much of a play boater.

The boat was very stable to the point of being hard to roll.
