Double bounce roll

One of the better rolling tips I've picked up is to crunch with the off side knee when over and on the sweep before crunching with the onside and flicking with the offside, sort of winding up. When my roll attempt fails my reaction has always been to go back to the tuck and setup with blade on offsi...

Re: Convertions - what's the state of the art?

Welcome back Krikkit, your absence has been noted. Why convert when one can buy really well made boats from likes of Zet almost set to go with the hard work done? No more yakers cast offs.

Re: Zet Raptor C1 conversion

I drilled a horizontal hole through through the spine to bolt the forward ends of the knee straps. The rear ends are secured by bolting through the hull as you thought. I'm very relaxed about drilling and bolting through hulls, I just put a patch over the job with very good tape.

Great footage Ian, can't argue with that. What was it about a picture and a thousand words?

Re: PFD types and rolling

I'm really enjoying our exchange Ian. Sometimes when I want to take some money off the yakers I get them to bet me that I can't roll my boat with the T grip end of my paddle instead of the blade. Of course I can but in order to win I have to remove my PFD.... It makes that much difference Once I had...

Re: PFD types and rolling

No Ian123 I will differ, I'm 65 which means I fall over more than I did at one time, and I paddle a lot, like I'm in Europe for four months over the NZ winter and I will paddle almost every day alone on very continual rivers together this translates into a lot of rolls, I don't swim, I just do not s...

Re: PFD types and rolling

Very topical Pea Pod, I have just made a big gripe on the topic Need a new PFD. I've put a lot of work and thought into rolling. I paddle a lot about 100 days a year, this year I aim for 150. In the past eight years I have had eight swims, two from loosing my paddle and six stuck in holes and having...

Re: Need a new PFD

I am looking hard for a new PFD also. My main gripe with the current fashion in PFDs is that they do not seem to be designed with the C1 roll in mind, (which they have not) they have become very bulky out front, especially so when the chest pocket is filled up. This bulk is in my eyes counterproduct...

Re: ZET - Factory C1s in Canada

Just a plug for Zet, had my Raptor three years. Zet are well designed boats, good plastic and in the right places and they seem to have good quality controls They are a very well outfitted C1 factory conversion. I think it's worth supporting a company like this rather than buying old hand me downs f...

Re: New Zealand--C1?

Hi Pea Pod, The subject of NZ C1 instruction has been well covered, there's none.... If you are to be in the South Island get in contact, I live close to Matt. Re instruction, failing a trip to the US get a good kayak instructor to explain how river features interact with the boat, I'm 65 and self t...

Re: Loving my C-1 Karma...from hate to love! Karma C-1 Vimeo

I have followed your wild love ride with the Karma, I don't have experience with the boat but do agree that the large might have been a size too big. I ran and destroyed a lot of Magnums both 72 and 80 and whilst I liked them when I had them (apart from all the welding) it was not until I moved on a...
