Re: Converting Sunburst II to yandem

I’d say yes, it’s probably been done.

Isn’t Esquif’s Pocket Canyon based on the Sunburst hull, and it’s a great tandem canoe!

The Sunburst ends are probably narrower.

Re: new paddle

Try direct contact to retailers as some have limited paddle stock such as a Werner Carbon Bandit.

Echo paddlers are superb. If you like Mitchells you will like Echos.

Also I hear Shaggy Designs will be making paddles this season.

Re: Modify a Taureau for kids - advice?

Why cut off the deck, are you looking for a weight saving?
Is it not already an OC1?

Re: Time for a New Boat

Can't go wrong with a Viper. It's the longer and less edgy OC1 that Hubbard designed before the Ocoee. 11' and 12' versions.

Re: Time for a New Boat

The Ocoee is a fantastic Frankie Hubbard design, albeit a bit dated now. Erik, it might be helpful to expand on other reasons why you love the Ocoee. If you want a newer style design and plastic hull in a solo open canoe that turns well, you are in luck and have several superb options all in plastic...

Re: Repairing Canoe Floatation bags

Sounds interesting.
How much did you use per airbag?
It seems to only comes in a quart bottle. At a quart size it cost a few dollars but could probably repair quite a few air bags.

Re: skid plats and plastic deck/gunnels on a rival

Have you weighed it? Did you weigh your old MR Outrage? The 2001 Dagger catalog lists the Rival at 43/40 lbs (wood/vinyl). That's probably Rolayex, not the RX lite/light version. But I'm sure you could swap out the gunwales for wood and save weight. See here: https://www.madrivercanoe.com/us/custome...

The liquidlogic Mullet at 9' long x 26.25" wide sounds great for a C1.

At 26.5” wide that seems perfect for a C1.

Re: Thigh straps vs lap belt pros and cons

You can probably find some relevant information using the search feature. I find that thigh straps work better in Open canoes than Decked boats. And that lap belts are better at keeping my butt secure to a C1 saddle. The main difference is my OC1s all have foot pegs whereas my C1s don’t. I glue a th...

Re: Newbie outfitting questions for Mohawk XL 13

Welcome Occasionally people post float bags or thigh straps for sale here. Float bags, try NRS or Fallline canoes (high end). Thigh straps, I like North Water, https://northwater.com/collections/thigh-straps Yes the upper thigh strap connects to the double D ring, see video https://m.youtube.com/wat...

Re: New Rigging?

As far as I know, it’s foam saddles with thigh straps, knee pads and foot pegs or a foam bulkhead with knee pads and foot pegs. Less common are foam ankle wedges/lifts/blocks/supports, which might help improve your comfort during long days in the saddle. I’m also feeling it after a self-supported 4 ...

Re: Trouble rolling wavesport EZ c1

I also only used a lap belt in my EZ C1.

I’ve never found thigh straps keeping my butt down (or up) when rolling C1s.

But thigh straps do work well in OC1.
