Re: Need help identifying which model of 1979 Perception can

Mystery solved. Here is what Steve Scarborough had to say about the boat. " That is an HD-1. It's a Hahn c1 hull with the sides built up. The serial number starts with WEM, which stands for William E. Masters. My hands are definitely clean on that boat. All of my designs started on paper or computer...

Zap Paddles

Since I was brought in to the conversation about which wood shaft paddle to buy I thought it'd be a good idea to introduce Zap Paddles to CBoats.net I've been a woodworker and a canoeist since age 16 or so. Zap Paddles combines the love of these two art forms. Zap Paddles has been been the works for...

Woops. Huge typo. The 3 characters on the serial number are WEM. Thanks for pointing that out pblanc. Typo has been corrected.

Re: paddle suggestions

I've never had an aluminum tip delaminate from the carbon fiber skin on one of my Zap Paddles. Mat Toddhunter has been using his hard on creeking water for 4 or so years w/o that being a problem. The trick is in the preparation of the aluminum and what the aluminum is adhered with. Just sold a coupl...

Re: Wood gunnels

Watco Teak oil is tough stuff. For best results the first time oiling gunnels they should be removed from the boat and heavily soaked on all sides, ends and penetrations. Something else to consider, though I've never done it, is to use a penetrating epoxy such as CPES from rotdoctor.com.. Using the ...

Need help identifying which model of 1979 Perception canoe

Can anyone identify this canoe? Based on the serial number, WEM320320279, it's a Perception built in 1979. It's light lay-up fiberglass hull design indicates it's a solo downriver whitewater racing canoe. I've saved it from the trash heap and am in the process of rebuilding it. Looking for the model...

Orange Gerber Pilot rescue knife

Just to remind my fellow boaters not to leave their "stuff" unattended. About 11:00 yesterday morning my new orange Gerber Pilot rescue knife and case was stolen off my PFD while we were running shuttle from Thrift to Woodall for the Chattooga clean-up. Not my loss. The sum-bitch who stole it has to...

Boat material

What about Kevlar? Lightweight and infinetly and easily repairable.
Saw an old Mad River Kevlar Twister on the river recently. It moved beautifully.

Shoot me your e-mail and I'lldrop some photos of the Rule 1200 pump, 5 amp werker sealed lead acid battery and water proof switch from West marine that I've installed in my Ocoee. Battery, switch and wires are all contained within pedistal seat. Also, consider installing pump in front of seat. never...
