Re: Wanted: a lightweight, waterproof pump battery

Here is some information on SLA batteries - charging and securing. SLA batteries should not be discharged more than 50-60%. If you fully discharge a SLA battery, it will lose its charging capacity and may not even be rechargeable. Attwood T1200 use about 3.25 amps to power it. A 4.5 Ahr SLA can be o...

Re: Protecting royalite? Foam exposed

I too would use G Flex, thickened with silica powder, to fill in the exposed foam core and build it up to flush with the adjacent hull, then use unthickened G Flex and cloth over the repair overlapping onto intact hull by about 2 inches. Some have reported good results filling in the foam core with...

Re: Knees and Ankles are killing me... suggestions?

To increase your ankle comfort, try a pair of ankle blocks. You can add some ankle blocks made of minicell. My wife paddles an Ovation and maybe interested in a backup.

Does the Ovation have airbags? I'm located in Chattanooga, TN, would you meet me half way?

Use a Fuse On An Electric Bilge Pump

You don't need a fuse using an SLA battery . Do you want to fry a 0.35 cent fuse or a $38.95 bilge pump motor? I'm thinking you would prefer the fuse. A fuse holder is not much money for the protection. You can cut corners and get away with it most of the time, but eventually murphy's laws happens ...

I checked out your step by step instructions for installing dual Attwood V1250s bilge pumps. Great job with the write up and all of the photos. You stated that you need to keep the bilge hoses as short as possible because the 5/8" diameter hose holds a lot of water (that washes back into the boat wh...

Bilge Pump Battery Terminals

Am I reading some of the replies right that a few of you are running lead acid powered pumps without having the battery enclosed in a waterproof box? If so, did you have to cover the terminals with some sort of goop? Or is the water not conductive enough compared to the wires when it gets submerged...
