Esquif Spark FS

Esquif Spark built circa 2004, airbags included $600, $550 w/out. The hull has seen lots of use, but not for the past 18 months. While it has the expected amount of abrasion on the hull, it is still fully intact and has many years left. The boat has been stored indoors its entire life. Outfitting is...

In my experience standardized teaching is all well and good, but you don't really start to learn until you move beyond the classes. I took a couple introductory classes, but quickly just started paddling with different groups without any formal instruction. Harold Deal taught me more in a single day...

Take initiative! If you don't see something happening that you want to in the boating activity, make it happen, don't just complain about the deficiency. Work in groups. When trying to involve a young person, bring two along--make sure they see the presence of peers in the sport. I was lucky in the ...

If I can carry over the momentum, I do a high-brace roll that usually works well and puts very little pressure on the paddle. If that fails though, I switch to low-brace since it's easier on shaft-shoulder and more reliable.

I occasionally do, but usually only if I am pushed towards the back deck by underwater currents when I flip. For the most part I have stopped defining which roll I execute, and just do whatever works. Often they are combinations of different rolls depending on my position when I flip and what works ...

Alden, use a Spark and you won't have any worries. Mine has stood up to quite a bit of abuse. It's more or less the same design minus 3/2 feet.

I find that reading this dude's work is surprisingly hilarious. He cannot form a coherent argument and his writing isn't organized in any logical format. Here's a good one--a favorite--letter to the FBI http://www.sponsonguy.com/FBI%20Public%20Safety%20Arrests.html In another FBI letter he demands t...

Well, Vajda lists the weight range as 70-80 kg (155-175lbs) but I've always been a bit under that and never had any trouble.

Either PM me or send me a note at nshils@gmail.com to give me your email and I can certainly send you some pictures when the time comes.

The boat is in dark red, by the way.

I'm not sure how long you want to wait, but I have a new boat on order and then will be selling my old slalom boat. Unfortunately since the company is so busy with important races coming up the boat probably won't be here until about the end of september-early october. The old one is a 2006 Vajda Li...

So Isaac, are all the people you have seen successfully paddling the Martikan as small as the designer? Since it's such a narrow and unstable boat it makes me wonder whether any larger paddlers have had any luck with it.
