Gunwales
Ed's in Vermont cuts very nice gunwales for several outfitters and shops. I needed a couple of sets a few years ago. I convinced several friends they needed some too. I ordered 32 at $20 apiece and split the cost of shipping, which was about $100. I don't know what his price is now. The ones I got w...

Pump design
8) Now that I've helped Phil hammer everybody who uses a pump, I may as well say I have an elegant design for a fully portable system that can utilize one or two pumps and can be moved from boat to boat with ease. All components are fully waterproofed including the single connector and toggle switch...

Back to pumps
To get back to the serious business at hand... Pumps have their points, both good and bad. :) The good: 1) They make it easier to keep up with cruising decked boaters. 2) They're hands-off, which is good if you're in a micro eddy above a drop and hanging onto a bush to stay in place. 3) They make no...

Necessary items?
Let's move the discussion to something near and dear to the decked boater's heart - NOSE PLUGS. Here's an item that's totally superfluous and only needed by people who don't know how to spend time under water without getting it in their sinuses - THE INEPT.

Phil's right
We all should have the goal of becoming fully accomplished in the sport. I think most of us have that goal. I feel a great sense of accomplishment when I'm "on my game" and make a difficult run dry, or almost dry; or if I run a difficult rapid even with a boat full of water. There's no doubt that th...

Right or left
I'm right handed, but paddle left. I figure you have better control of the t-grip with your dominant hand.

Pumps
The good ones have no problem navigating anything without help to get the H2O out. Those of us who are mortal like any help we can get so we can keep up with the decked boaters we paddle with.
Actually, I swing both ways. I've got two boats with pumps (both Whitesells) and two without.
