It has more to do with shape than length of hull in my opinion. I used to have a Mohawk Shaman that back surfed very easily. Actually often when I was trying to side surf it would want to go into a back surf by it's self. I would try to spin my Zepher on a certain wave and couldn't do it. Next time ...

I used to paddle a Prophet and the edges are in the stern. The bow is very round. LOTS of rocker. If I wanted to carve a line I concentrated on those harder edges behind me. Leaning back. Where your weight is centered for or aft has a lot of influence on how the boat handles. I learned about back fe...

twintex hulls and carbon paddle shafts
I bought an Esquif Zepher this spring and am very happy with it. At the same time I bought a new carbon bandit (paddle),and like it just fine. I had used 54" paddles for years but was talked into a longer paddle by someone I consider a much better boater than myself. He recomended a 60". Did that fo...

When I first started paddling whitewater, the boats had a lot more space for bailing. I had enough space in my Mad River ME, Perception HD1, Dagger Prophet to bail the water out with my paddle. Used a shorter paddle then, but could get most the water out by leaning to my on side and swushing the wat...
