Re: Hip pads...
To expand on what I think Creeker is saying. I outfitted really tight hip pads right at the gunnels in my prelude when I first got it. Worked great in deeper water runs with lots of wavetrains, holes and few FU rocks. On low water rivers and creeks, hitting rocks - the impacts are instantly transfer...

Re: Open boats at FIBArk?
FIBArk usually coincides with high water on the Ark - most of the colorado canoers I know avoid the Ark during that time period. That said, I think there are usually a few. I think Cadster might be attending - he might know of more canoers going. I'll ping him on facebook.

Re: 6'6" 250lbs for a taureau?
AJ had the skirted version. I wonder if that might have made it harder to roll due to more bouyancy. I tried to roll AJs a few times and I felt like I was having to pull my body up on top of the boat rather than rolling the boat under me (not sure if that makes any sense )

4 boats - all bought without trying first - been happy with most - you can always sell it if you don't like.

Re: Stuck in an offside carve
It probably depends on the design of the boat as to what to do, but what I've found that works for me in short plastic boats like the prelude or ledge is to flatten the boat out (no lean) and do a strong offside sweep. That's usually enough to get the boat carving the other direction.

Are you planning on hauling gear in your canoe ala self-support or will you always have raft support? If you have raft support, the l'edge is a great big-guy boat. It has edges, but it's so wide and stable you don't really notice them unless you actively engage them (what I mean is you don't trip ov...

I've paddled lower rustic at various levels, and >3ft is best but it is still runnable below that level. The lowest I ran it was at 2.25ft many years ago - very bony, but still fun and I think I only got hung up once. We put in at granpa's gorge bridge (a little below the normal putin at Indian Mead...

Not sure what you are talking about with the lacing on the saddle? There are two loops on the back of the pegs for airbag cage lacing. You probably won't need to worry about this as they are used on the open model. (Shoot and post a picture if you are concerned.) Ahh, that would make sense, it's to...

Ledge outfitting ?
So based on Dooley's glowing Colorado review, and briefly paddling Smurf's ledge at OC Nats, I broke down and bought a brand new ledge today :D For you ledge owners, couple of questions on the factory outfitting. It came with a piece of cord tied around the saddle (right where your butt goes) that l...

OC Nats was a blast! I'll echo Thanks to all the volunteers and organizers, and pulling off the last minute venue change. Y'all did a great job! It was great meeting the boaters from all over - lots of friendly, talented boaters from all over the continent and Japan too. The high and fast water made...
