Mike, regarding the urge to bail... I experienced the same thing until I became 100% confident in my on water roll. When I finally got a reliable roll, the panic seemed to go away since the uncertainty of not rolling up (and thus air) was gone. My advice, work on getting a very reliable conventional...

My advice... Once on the river, take as many opportunities as you can get to roll in current and then roll some more! Try rolling in different currents – fast and flat, slow choppy, aerated, etc.... Continued practice in moving water is definitely a step towards a good combat roll. Here are a couple...

Hi Bob, Thanks for offering your opinion. It’s definitely stirred up some interest. I’ve only been racing open boat slalom for a few years, and it has been exclusively at the Minden course in Canada, but here is my two cents: I hear what you are saying about having a tougher course for an event like...

I think these are the first photos of the Salsa in action... I'm pretty sure that's Mark Scriver in the boat.

Dagger Phantom - What DON'T you like about it?

The Phantom seems to be one of those boats that people either love or hate. If you have spent some time in a Phantom and were not a fan of it, what was it that you did not like?

Just curious…

OC1 - Bulkhead and Straps??

I have an open boat with Mike Yee outfitting (knee and thigh straps). I’m thinking of keeping the thigh straps but removing the knee straps and going with a foam bulkhead to secure my knees. I figure this will do just as good (possibly better?) job securing the knees, and will help to displace a lit...

Hi Anna, I paddle a Phantom and really like it, but it is one of those boats where you will often find polarity of opinions. If you live in the Toronto area, and want to try out a Phantom, there are pool sessions in Etobicoke that I go to and would be more than happy to let you try out the Phantom. ...

I ordered a paddle as well. My cheque has also been cashed. I e-mailed him a couple of weeks ago, and got no reply. I then called and left a message. He did get in touch with me last week. Explained that his hard drive melted and thus he did not have my information. Since then he re-assured me that ...

Thanks for all the advice. The inazone getting a bit of a face lift. As I type, all the kayak outfitting has been removed. I hope to have the conversion complete before pool sessions. As a bit of an aside, here is a copy of an e-mail from the kayaker that I bought the boat from. Even the kayaker agr...

I'm far from having a perfect forward stroke, but one thing that really helped me is to practice the stroke movements in front of a mirror (with or without a paddle). I found that with a mirror you really see if you actually are doing what you are supposed to be doing (i.e. shoulder/torso rotation, ...

C1 Winter Project - Boat Advice Needed

My girlfriend and I are both OC paddlers (she - Ocoee and me a Phantom). We're driving home from paddling last weekend and she says to me "maybe I should consider getting a C1?". Since I always visit the paddling websites, I offered to do a little research for her. The reason she is thinking of goin...

Regarding the new materials and designs... Anymore info about this? Is Dagger up to anything with their open canoes?
