Re: Convertions - what's the state of the art?

PS I'm not Matt I knew I was stretching my memory just a bit too far there :/ sorry. You do have a point mind I tried a factory Director conversion just before I damaged my shoulder, and it was alright... At least as good as my 'first draft' of a DIY conversion as stock, so it would undoubtedly sav...

Re: Convertions - what's the state of the art?

Thanks Matt, I hope you had a good birthday recently (and that my memory is serving me adequately there). Mainly, I'd like to convert because I already have an almost new Jefe Grande and a huge sheet of foam in my parents garage. Being brutally honest still at the stage of life where I have to be " ...

Re: Esquif related questions? Let me help

Oooooh,
On a point of general curiosity more than anything, does this mean that esquif are back in business, or has someone bought the IP & Moulds?

Re: Do I need a custom skirt?

You don't need one, but if you have your saddle fairly far forward, you'll probably appreciate one.

Convertions - what's the state of the art?

Hi everyone, could you point me at what the current state of the art in converting kayak shells to C1 is? I've had about 2½-3 years out of boating (injury, work & family combined to just push boating to the side), right before I stopped I'd just bought a Jefe-Grande to replace the previous one which...

Re: European CBoat Armada 2014

Hi, If anyone is joining, please giva us a hint so that we can plan Dinner for Saturday (also in case there are any vegetarians coming) and give the Campdsite (Kamp Lazar) an idea how many will be coming. There will be a group discount for CBoat Armada, the place we stay (place by the horses) is sl...

Teaching Canoe Rolling?

I'm now mentoring several people in C1 paddling, and they're struggling to get a good roll going, one of the fundamental problems being they're both very short, and are having issues leaning forwards and reaching up and out enough to roll... Rolling a canoe leaning back doesn't really work as most o...

Re: European CBoat Armada 2014

I was meant to be in Soca around that time anyway, which has now fallen through and am now talking to my Partner (a kayaker, who originally convinced me to head there) about us two still going, assuming she agrees. I'll just have to convince work to give me the time off, and et voila, I'll finally m...

Ask Gwyn from Shaggy Designs, as I understand it he's down there pretty much annually.

Re: C1 knee strap placement

Sound good as well as lighter than I expected. I trimmed mine back as aggressively as possible, to minimise the weight... If you used a bigger section of hull (going right back under the saddle (I use LL center rail as the basis of my.convertions, so not much need) then it would be accordingly rath...

Re: C1 knee strap placement

How heavy is using an old boat hull for an outfitting base? Not all that heavy, certainly much less than the kayak seat it replaced; I trimmed off most of the bits not needed to support outfitting or attach it to the boat minimising the weight gain... It's in the region of about 1kg (2.2lb) of plas...

Re: C1 knee strap placement

I have a slightly different suggestion for how to mount them: Get an old boat, and cut a big section out of the hull, going far enough up the sides to have the footrest bolt-holes... Now build your outfitting onto that (I have snowboard bindings attached with blind rivets, and a u-bolt with a snap s...

Re: Royalex is dead?

If the demand is sufficient, and we as consumers are willing to pay enough to make it profitable for both the canoe and polymer companies to make a profit, then another supplier will arise. If not, then I guess it's only fair that the product becomes obsolete... perhaps it will inspire some innovati...

Re: Knuckle scrapes

Povidone iodine, disinfects and dries minor wounds very quickly (i find betadine spray is best, as its a fine powder rather than a liquid solution increasing the drying effect). 90% of the time I just leave well alone, if its just a minor abrasion, rather than a patch of misding skin or a deep wound...

T-grip Tenons

I've got a mitchell premier which needs shortening, my intitial thought was to cut it off, make 4 cuts to form a square tennon on the shaft and then chop a through mortice in an oak blank, wedge (or draw-bore) the tennon in place and then put it all in the vice andshape the t-grip using gouges, spok...
