I weigh about 150lbs. and paddle the 69. It is a little big in the bow but that can be nice when running bigger whitewater. In a perfect world I would have a 59 as well for day trips and smaller stuff but I currently have a whip-it that fits the bill for that. It really depends on your use and skill...

Another old piracy rumor that I've heard before was from sometime in the 80's when the US guys got to Europe with their new designs that were lower volume, newer profile, and just all around better. they went to have dinner one night and came out and the boats were gone. The next morning all the boa...

The Loco would be a good boat for your weight, what is your height? It was designed by Robin Bell and I believe it is the boat that he just got the bronze in at the games. He is a tall guy (maybe 6'2") and I bet weighs in around 175-180 lbs. The other boats available can be sized for you as galaspor...

If you want all wood I'd look into a Backlund paddle, Keith does really nice work and can make you anything you want. I also support Mitchell paddles although I have not used one in a few years. I currently use galasport paddles and have been really happy with them, but they are all composite and no...

Update

Well, the boat still kicks major butt and I recommend it highly for anyone looking for a great all-arounder for general river running. I have actually been able to surf some low water potomac river waves in this thing. As for the outfitting..... The support beam is now in 2 pieces. Oh well back to t...

I have just put ratchet straps in my boat for the first time and I have to say that I will be doing it again in my other boats. A big help I found is to mount them to something substantial and wide with foam padding on one side. I happened to have a backband that fit the bill so that is what I used ...

My opinion is you must reinforce the hull when you take the kayak seat out. It prevents oil canning of the hull but most importantly it will make the boat less susceptible to wrapping. If the boat is going to be used for float and bloat flat water trips or just park and play then it is not as import...

looks good. I like that backbone style setup. And I've been eyeing those boats too. ..but, and I've been a carpenter for 25 years so I know this stuff ..... that beam you started with would work great if you didn't drill the holy crap out of it. There's nothing left of it man! Smaller holes, farthe...

Well with a hades of a lot of driving, little sleep, and some good racing I am back home in DC. I love the pic's and ideas everyone is throwing up here. Fez- the aluminum setup looks good, I originally was going to use aluminum for the center spine but opted out because of price and believe it or no...

Re: Ryan

I read where you cracked the composite box beam off sunshine. What if you tried a large pvc pipe like 4" to build off of? You could cut with your holesaw through 3" foam to slide a sleave around your tube. I am sure a little foam will help absorb impacts. You could also laminate pvc boards side by ...
