Well, I didn't really join the Armada, but did a bunch of boating out there on Saturday. I even did the Savage in open boat. It was really disappointing (the paddling, not the river). I think that about killed my open boating ambitions. Filling up and having to dump is no fun. Having to manhandle th...

I've scouted Rideau and seen video of guys running it. I remember thinking it was more like 25 feet. Of course, the river level below changes the height.

cboaters on the Blackwater
Got the chance to paddle this past weekend on two straight days with C-1ers on the Blackwater in West Virginia. On the first day I was lucky enough to paddle with Jay Ditty, and on the second day with Bernie. Jay paddled a Blunt, Bernie paddled a Remix, and I paddled a Large Burn, which I am just le...

Jay,
(I was just joking about the giardia thing.) I hope to be out there this weekend for the Blackwater.

Just ran Difficult the other day. I'm actually writing this from the hospital, where I'm recovering from giardia. "When you do a run that's difficult, that's IMPRESSIVE. But when you do Difficult Run, that's DISGUSTING." No, but really, it's a nice creek, even if it contains sceptic run-off. We did ...

I wish the bottom drop at Charlotte wasn't so shallow, and I wish the eddies down below it were less surgy, more fair. I have heard Erik Amason caught a bad surge that derailed his race on Day 3. Of course, I guess that's all part of the game, but I like to think conditions will be the same for ever...

I'll chime in here, as I paddled Bill's Remix on Wilson Creek the other week. I didn't have any great impressions of it. It felt like a pretty solid creek boat. Any tippiness I felt was probably due to Bill's seat which, especially after my 4" slalom seat, felt like it must have been at least severa...

John, Let me see if I can respond: John wrote: "I suspect that what Jim, I, and perhaps others are grumbling about is more about the gradual and continuing loss of these intermediate levels of the sport than whether or not the rules changes are good for the elite racer." I agree that it's bad to hav...

I like it. A combined Nationals. Sounds like it would be a fun, low-key time. "Friendly competition." Reminds me of the time I ran a sub-four minute "quarter" during a track meet . . . They had no idea I was still out there . . . But nobody cared . . . Those were the days . . .

There were like 155 boaters in the Cheat Race this year, and Jay and I were the only canoes. Only two of us! Last year there were like 160 racers and Milt and I were the only canoes.
It's kind of weird!
