Re: Float bags for an Option

I have a set of Bomber Bags (no covers) in my Option. They fit are a perfect fit for the boat - much better than my previous bags. I would highly recommend these bags.

Yes! Canoe roll instruction in the SE

Just wanted to spread that word that Endless River Adventures at the Nantahala in NC has awesome canoe instruction! I spent the afternoon with Red (and Craig threw in a tip or two) and I'm am thrilled with the results. Red is awesome -knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. He was able to quickly a...

Re: Boat demos in the SE

Pierre Octane 85 is 5" shorter and 3" narrower than Octane 91/92. I briefly paddled the Option while someone else jumped in the Octane 85. Here are my initial thoughts - I think I like both, but mind you I haven't spent much time in an Option. Speed - the Option may be faster, I don't know for sure....

Re: Boat demos in the SE

If you wife likes the Ion but wants a faster boat she needs to wait until summer when Blackfly has a new boat - Octane 85 coming out. I paddled the prototype at ALF. It handles like the Ion but it is much faster. It's a cut down Octane or lengthened, narrower Ion - depending on how you want to look a...

Re: Adding thigh straps to an Ion, recommendations?

Chris I paddle an Ion. I've attached a piece of foam under my foot pegs extending toward the bow of the boat. The clearance is essentially gone. Cushions my feet/toes and I've never had my foot slide under the peg. But, I also wear chacos and now the brewers, so it would be difficult for a bulky sho...

Re: Oc-1 or -2 for small-ish teenagers?

I know I'm late to commenting, and that not too many Ions are available used at this point. But I have to echo Wiggins in recommending giving the Ion a try for small teenagers - it is such a stable boat for small paddlers, yet so stinking nimble and fun to paddle. I put my 15 year-old, 5'8" 125 lb. ...

Re: Please don't flame...paddle shortening question....

Don't know how to remake a paddle, but definitely try a 52" paddle. Everyone has well meaning advice, but it all comes down to what works for you . My personal experience is that I paddled for about 15 years with a 56" paddle because that is what "everyone" says you need to use. I never could learn ...
