I was thinking about an inner layer of vinyl too. I actually sewed new daisy chains on one large piece of vinyl, although that vinyl is not very thick (thinner than the original NW but was all I had). I had planned to use flexible contact cement to glue down the PVC over the ABS and Vinyl strap moun...

Hi all, we now aquired (for 2,75 apiece, which I think is pretty nice) 2 1mmx30cmx50cm sheets of ABS and plan to glue them in with GFlex (the German Importer opens tomorrow, hope they can ship it out here quick!). I will check the cracks, maybe open them up a bit to get adhesive between the parted f...

Hi, thanks for the advice guys. I am still pondering wether using Kevlar or ABS sheet, I'd actually prefer the latter being a cleaner, nicer looking result (if I can find one here, that is, during next week.. will be hard enough to get G-Flex shipped out to me fast enough! Dooh..). I will feather an...

Easy. Strap attachment point placement IS important. If thigh straps are mounted on the floor (behind your hips somewhere for example). all that happens when you move your knee inwards is your strap slides around your knee.. until there is no more give and then sometime it will move. Now imagine the...

I once owned a couple of cedar strip sea kayaks..bear mountain boats "Endeavour 17" design. Beautiful and just the thing to cruise the coast with if nothing was going on on the rivers. Happens I never found time to paddle them again after getting into WW open boating.. so I let them go. Sometimes no...

Glue cracked my Royalex - Royalite - R84
Hi my single sticker peers, I just encountered another problem with my ongoing re-fitting of saddles to our Sparks. In the boat equipped with a North Water adjustable saddle, where the daisy chains came off already, after tearing these off I found a couple of cracks in the top layer of the Royalite....

Great Help Guys, thanks a lot! Since actually we have two Sparks here, one with the NW Daisy Chained saddle, we will stick with the NW System for now and use that to find out where to put (if I have to switch it around) the saddle in the other boat. Kaz, Ill gladly use your advice as the starting po...

Ah, in Austria in the little town of Lofer (former home of the Lofer Rodeo, Devils Canyon and a nice Slalom Course) there is a campsite (Grubhof) with.. a LARGE dryer just for paddling gear! They even have a sticker on the door of the (gear drying room) with a pictogram of this. How about that for p...

Thanks for the saddle answers, thats generally what we're trying to do.. the daisy chains are coming loose too, so we thought we could skip re-glueing them in but will do now (and closer together) to be able to check out the positioning. @Craig - was thinking of that option with Kaz being such a nic...

Wow thats a good price. Has anyone tested MUSTO MPX (sailing) drysuits? They are Gore-Text Pro Shell, have Cordura Knee reinforcements and sport a stylish (though necessitating a bright PFD and or helmet) full black. Prices are great too.. so I was wondering. Since you kneel a lot when sailing it wi...

Spark Outfitting & Saddle Positioning
Hi friends of the wet & open, I would like to hear your advice or tips on where to find some hints as to how the saddle should be positioned in an Esquif Spark. Being asymmetrical and all, I guess the usual formulas from the centerline won't work here and the "up front" paddling style of the cab for...

Drill a hole, lock trough the hull (maybe not below waterline.. although that would apparently be very effective!) and use a plug when paddling ;D Well, seriously, some people attach grab loops through pipes glued into the hull - drilling or cutting two well aligned holes through the bow/stern (whic...
