Re: A twelve-step program -- then RECOVERY !!

Congrats to your boat, always the innovator, are you not. Have fun & turn that sleepy west coast around to join the short boat revolution.. meaning boats under 11 feet long :D

Re: G/Flex Epoxy

I used Gflex for two boats with major repairs, one a replacement of a football sized, through the hull patch of cracked and deteriorated down-to-the-foam Viper bottom, one an army of cracks that developed in a spark from excessive glue application under a saddle. Both done without cloth whatsoever. ...

Re: Curved blade versus flat blade

Just a thought re: the high kneel flatties, it might be that on flatwater the turbulence introduced by the blade itself is lower with a flat/straight blade while a curved blade does indeed put the water in motion, so the catch could be better with the flat blade. But unless anyone does actually do s...

Re: Paddle repair question

Dynel, or Dyneema, another brand name, is made of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene... UHMWP. So you can look for that, find more brand names, and a possible supplier for fibre laminates. Its great stuff, but beware of any methodology that would have you sand it.. its fuzzy and hard to sand, ...

Re: 2 OC1's - need a ride from Birmingham AL to Charlotte NC

So - is really no one reading this? I'm surprised, can it be true that no single cboater ever is driving from Alabama to North Carolina and able to take a couple boats up there, or at least part ways.. and here I thought it was heartland open boater country. Prove it, help us move those two boats. Y...

2 OC1's - need a ride from Birmingham AL to Charlotte NC

Help a fellow open boater prevent a 399 mls. and back 12 hour roundtrip from Birmingham, AL to Charlotte, NC! An Ocoee and a Prelude, that will continue travelling together to Germany :D. Part-way would probably help too, could probably even use infamous Lenoir City boater's yard as a relay station....

Re: ALF 2013 - March 10th-17th

Einar, Rick.. you could ask Pat to come on down south with you and split the gas by three! Not that it would make the whole Idea more likely, would it?

Would still be fun seein' you around. In onesies.

Re: Drysuit Question

If the outer layer is wet, it doesn not have to be the suit leaking, only if thats in one spot more or less ore unevenly distributed. If the temperature outside is cold, the sweat will evaporate from your skin and some will go through the membrane layer. But some will stay inside! Either because you...

Re: where can i find a airplane seat belt buckle?

Well thanks for the accolades Rick, not sure if I deserve it, but thank you, it was a pleasure to paddle the boat. I am busy with other things for now, but I intent to copy that outfitting to some degree, sooner or later.. ;D

Cheers!

Re: Dry Top and Pants vs. Dry Suit

Had a Kokatat Dry top plus neo longjohn for my first 2 years of OC1, then got a Kokatat Tempest dry pant with socks which was a comfort improvement over the neoprene when I stayed dry, but very wet when I exited until I started to wear an extra belt to buckle it down.. then it was OK in minor swims ...

Re: where can i find a airplane seat belt buckle?

The picture of the stainless version is a little hard to find, so I thought I'd just post this pic of one of Pierre's nicely outfitted C1-s.. I paddled it, the buckles release very well and seem like an overall great idea. I will buy these for a C1 I am outfitting. Cheers, Jan http://files.homepagem...

Re: installing grab loops?

Drill matching holes, fumble rope/webbing through, make knots inside. Either water knot or connect the rope ends to form a closed loop, that way even if one hole starts to rip out you won't lose connection as fast as with only two water knots.

Clean, efficient, quick, proven a thousand times.

Re: z drag kit/ first aid kit storage?

Here's carrying a 120cm 8mm Dyneema sling, 2 SMC prussik minding pulleys, 2 mammut pro cord slings for a modified Bachmann knot (no prussik use here any more..) 2 regular locking biners and 1 HMS Biner in my PFD front pocket all the time. Plus a paddling biner on my (elongated, for OC1) pig-/cowtail...

Re: Gflex to Gflex

No need to flame treat Gflex, or anything other than PE, PP, ABS, PVC maybe - plastic - for that matter. Flame treating breaks the surface polarity interacting with surface tension of materials on a molecular level, which creates a better adhesion through a better and more uniform wetting of the sur...
