Re: ABS repair question re. exposed foam core
Yes, I did glue the ABS to the inner foam core with GFlex. Since most of it at that point was replaced with Gflex anyways, and it sticks to ABS really well. I think I roughened it up a little, too, to create some more surface nooks & crannies for the G to tie into. ;D I figured that what destroys re...

Re: ABS repair question re. exposed foam core
You could also just put in a layer of ABS if you get some, sold for example in RC model building supply shops, in varying thicknesses. i have done a similar repair successfully to a viper, bottom removed, was cracked and brittle, in about basketball size. filled up the voids w/ filled (cotton flour ...

Re: who sells bulkhead saddles?
Build one, its cheap and easy enough if you can make a straight cut with a sharp chef's knife. Which you can if you apply some painters tape and cut along it, even at an angle. About 4-6 hours, more the first time you do it because you have to figure stuff out. Boat control: best thing I ever did fo...

Re: To glue or not
Good idea with the bottom foam. I would not be concerned with sand under the saddle either, but glueing down would definitely make things more solid. If you can't spread the gunnels far enough to put in the saddle with them mounted, put in the saddle first and then add the gunnels - you definitely c...

Time for a Bulkhead.. mine is completely glue-free and held down by a thwart (bulkhead only, saddle is glued down w/ flexible contact adhesive..) ;D

Re: Best International Paddling Destination?
I'd second Sir Adam and say: wherever the Euro Armada takes place, if you're not into tropical destinations or patagonia (there's even an outfitter with open boats there now, offering two trips with mainly class II - III or III-IV), you would be able to find a lot of rivers within driving distance i...

Re: Something to start / Aqua Bound Odyssey 7
Don't buy. I own the plastic one, and I can tell you its a shitty blade. Besides the flex (which the carbon has somewhat less of) it has NO catch at all... way too much turbulence. Similar problem with the Mergner.. which was designed as a Rodeo blade for maximum forward grip. Not much slicing in ro...

I second that - it was again great to meet the old bunch of fellow paddling friends and meet a few new ones, paddle a great, challenging and beautiful river together and celebrate this all every night... see you all again next year, or more likely before that somewhere on a river ;D Cheers to the we...

Re: Dagger Encore as a beginner boat
I second that. My girlfriend loves her spark.. learning efforts regarding anything "special" for the spark for her? Zero. She's 1,65m & 50kg.. and I'm 1,88m, 95kg - also in a Spark... and also very happy, had a little more to learn, too. Quite a range that boat offers.. ;D (she'd be happy with a Mil...

theres still plently of miles in composite materials, but it isn't the reinforcement material that holds us back, its the matrix as you can have brittle resins (Phenolic) floppy resins (Urethane) or not quite either resins (Epoxy, Polyester and Vinylester) which aren't quite tough enough to compete...

I like painters for various reasons, most of them have been said above- one other is, if I'm in the water swimming, my grab loop would be about 40-50cm out of the water, thus depending on the conditions it is not easy to reach. Think L'edge handle on top of decks, even more so. With painters, I can ...

You could use a router, one of the pulley-guided kind to not work into the glass once you've routed down all of the gunwale. Or just plane away with an electric plane.. if you have one. Glass/Epoxy might dull the blade somewhat, so use a beater if available. good luck, its always great if one more b...

What about an engineered composite material like dyneema, or UHMWPE - Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene as its called.. Given the fact that its used for radomes because its radar penetrable, I figure it would have a good side use as a car material as well. ;D But no kidding, it's 40% stronger...

There's two schools for ergonomics.. the "fit" school and the "generic". Fit, well, fits YOU and most likely noone else. See this school in a power tool - don't buy it unless you fit it, because otherwise its awkward to boot. Doesnt allow for changing your grip around much. The "generic" or "minimal...
