Hi, Lap belts are a good idea, but there is a bit of a fear factor. Can you carve more out of the bulkhead so you can get your legs more into it and use the foot pegs to really wedge yourself in place? Re-doing the bulkhead so your knees are further apart in the boat could help, as might lowering th...

I really like the H20 paddles. I use one of their regular blades, I really haven't spent enough time with the Team blade to comment on it, but the guys who paddle with it seem to really like it. John, the guy who owns the company, is a great guy and a committed whitewater paddler. He really wants to...

This race is a great answer to the recent "why most of us don't race" thread - if more races were like the Gull race, I think more of us would race. There's about as many racers as the US Nationals but it is more laid back. The water is great, and the level seems to have been holding - should be a r...

Hey Brent, You will almost certainly have to go with a bulkhead system that is held under the thwarts and glued to the foam along the side of the hull. If you have a Mike Yee style saddle, I doubt you will get it to stay in place. The key with the Preludd outiftting is to get the saddle as low as po...

Three very different boats. The Sequel has a very round hull. Both the Solito and the Ocoee have chines. I haven't paddled the Solito but I would bet it is a bit slower than the Ocoee. Rumour has it that it is kind of edgy. If you are coming from a Phantom, you might not like that but if you are use...

Hey WeeMac, Have you taken a look at the Bell Prodigy and Prodigy X ? The Prodigy is kind of like a smaller person's version of the Rival. I paddled one last weekend. I was probably a bit too big for it, and would have been better in the Prodigy X. I was really impressed by how fast the boat was, ho...

Hi, I had an opportunity to paddle a Zephyr yesterday. I think the boat had been used for a while as a demo boat is some shallow water. There were some scuff marks on the hull but nothing deep enough to call a scratch. As it wasn't my boat, I didn't try any moves that involved purposely hitting rock...

When I was paddling a Phantom and got in a Zoom, I really didn't find anything about the boat got me too excited. After paddling a Prelude for a few years, the Zoom certainly feels fast and light. I wouldn't say its twitchy (I'm about 180). I guess it comes down to what you like and I like Plastic t...

another thing I find that helps (when I remember it) is to try to look for the logo on the other side of the boat while I am sweeping my head across the airbag. That keeps my head low and really seems to help the roll. As for waiting 5 seconds, that can be an awfully long time. If you do flush into ...
