If you are comfortable with it, I have sent the paddles back to them with a note taped to the blade indicating the work I would like them to do, my contact info and method of payment. They typically called me before doing any work.

That looks a lot like my wife's paddle! We sent it back to Mitchell and told them if they could not repair it to just build a new one. We got it back a few weeks later repaired :P for what I thought was a very reasonable price. I also just sent back a wood shaft/carbon blade that had a delaminating ...

The Nolichucky Gorge is one not to miss. IMHO It is one of my favorite runs in the area. A good first run level would be 2 to 2.5 on the Embreeville gauge which is accessible on the USGS site. I have run it from 1.5, really low and long, to 3.5, a good class IV run. The best part of the run is the f...

I agree with Chuck, hip snap, hip snap. I have been told by many people that my roll is very snappy. I practice rolling in flat water, pond or pool as often as I can. I have had a reliable roll for many years. A couple of exercises I do are: 1- In a pool use the side of the pool and hold on with bot...

Here is a link that I have that has quite a few of the olympic runs on it.

Click on the videos link on the left side of the page.

I also heard a rumor that Jim Michaud had most of the runs on a DVD.

If you are looking for something plastic and fast then I would also suggest a Perception Slasher. I have one for use on those southeast rivers. When I found out Perception was discontinuing them I ordered a new one. It handles a lot like a full on slalom race boat but is more sluggish due to the wei...

My wife had a pretty reliable offside roll. She was able to do it without switching her grip. She only practiced it in her C1. She never usee it in combat. We used to paddle C2 and it was great that she could roll on my side. She has since lost it and has been unable to find it again. I tried ...

I agree. I have been using Mitchell paddles for around 15 years. They have always been great, especially in the repair department. Great work at reasonable prices and quick turnaround. I've probably owned about 6 of their paddles. I highly recommend their paddles.

I guess I got in on this thread a little late... Bob P. On the video it is hard to see just what the touch was but I believe that his paddle touchs the pole just as he lowers his top hand to pass the paddle under the gate. It is actually easier to see in the normal motion than in the slo-mo. I also ...

I have been using Mitchell paddles for about 15 years now. I started using the Premier curved blades about 6 or so years ago and have found them to be a real nice paddle. I have both a carbon shaft and wood shaft version. I use the carbon shaft mostly for slalom racing. I do believe that the carbon ...

I also have been using Mitchell Premier paddles for quite a while now. I started with an all wood straight blade then moved to a wood shaft carbon curved blade and also have an all carbon curved blade. As NEOC Slalom Rules said the wood shaft is a liitle easier on the body. I tend to use my all carb...

A lot of good suggestions have been made so far, but the jist seems to be a shorter paddle. I'm 5'8" and have used paddles from 56 to 58 and finally settled on a 57. I've been using that for many years with no neck or shoulder pain. If I remember correctly Bruce Lessels is 6'7" and he used a 63" pad...

Elegant?

boater X: was good paddling with you in Canada. Sorry you had to balst off at lunch. At least you got to see the character of the river. We got to do Tewksbury twice that week, both times a about -.8. Good level for doing some moves in Meat Grinder. Jim: Thanks for including me in the Elegant list. ...

I think there are two reasons we C-Boat: 1 - We like a challenge 2 - It is more elegant I've been C-boating for about 15 years now and still find that there is room for improvement. I guess it all comes down to what you want out of your paddling experience. I've been told by non-paddlers that I look...

I paddled an Atom on a vacation a couple of years ago and did not find it very edgy. I usually paddle a Slasher or a Super D so maybe I'm just used to having sharp edges. I weigh around 140 so I'm quite a ways from the upper limit and maybe that is also a factor. As others have said modifying the th...
