Many good points made here about maintaining the integrity of a sport where canoes-look-like-canoes. And very encouraging to hear that we may be on the brink of a re-awakening in the sport of WW C-boating, which, admittedly, has tanked in the last buncha years. But -- another viewpoint, from persona...

Great point, Chris!

Gotta be a Clipper Merganser, with 3-way saddle! Great tandem boat, and, despite its size, lively enough for solo play.

Astrals are sold in BC -- I guess it's possible to buy / sell products without approval from the Authorities.

But John is wise to pay attention to 'approval' as he will be using his jacket professionally.

It ain't about avoiding drowning -- it's about avoiding litigation. . .

(Hm-m. . . Rival? Mint condition? $500? . . .)

Hey C. G.

Awful boat. Terrible price. Wrong colour. Don't do it.

Tell ya what -- give me the name and phone number of the vendor, and I'll let them know you're not interested. . .

Hey -- what are c-boat friends for???

Problem with being fussy about colour is that not all manufacturers give you a choice. Smurf made a good point -- visibility. I've been known to swim "occasionally," and I think it's important to be visible. Black, blue, green and purple gear is hard to spot in big waves, or twilight conditions. For...

Hey Bob -

Next time you drop in for Earl Grey, bring the Burn. I'll flatten the ends with my truck. Should be perfect!

What?????????????????????????? Now, of course, MY undergarments are frozen. (And that's inside the house). But I live at 52 degrees north -- that's even further north than Winterpeg, in the beautiful, but white, province of Manitoba!! But, in my atlas, Tennessee is only 2 inches away from Florida! H...

Thank you Oops, Smurf, and Neil for the response.

I asked about the Hero because one came up, close to home, on the MEC Gear Swap.

Your comments convinced me to pass on this one. Appreciate your guidance!

Jackson Hero

Hi folks

I'm wondering if anyone has paddled a Jackson Hero conversion.

Would be grateful for your comments. How's she handle?

Please 'n Thanks!

I was leery of using an adhesive mount, so I just bolted a "Tripod Adapter Mount" (see "Accessories", on their web-page) onto the forehead of my helmet, and screwed the GoPro housing onto it. It works well, and is easily adjustable. And, yes, I tether the whole thing onto the helmet with light acces...

Good question, R. C. Even the combo of bunnysuit-plus-drysuit tends to bunch up. My latest experiment is to take a pair of mid-weight fleece pants, and cut off (and hem) the legs just above the knees. Then take the cut-off legs, and make leggings out of them. (Or else wear heavy knee-socks). The kne...

Paddled last week -- air temperature was 4 degrees above freezing; light snow flurries. Usually the Kokatat Polartec bunny suit is all I need, but this trip I added a MEC polyester t-shirt, and a long-sleeved Stanfield's kroy wool undershirt. On the bottom, I added kroy wool long johns, cut off abov...

Two more cents' worth: I've paddled a tandem Probe -- didn't like it. I've paddled a Vertige-X -- a very good tandem boat -- solid and predictable, yet lively and responsive -- a good surfer. I've paddled (for many years) a Clipper Merganser -- best WW tandem boat on the market, far as I'm concerned...

Hey Mike Western Canoeing sells pieces of foam in various thicknesses. But it's more economical to buy it by the full sheet, from the factory. They will slice it into any thickness(es) you wish. Name of the company is Norseman Allfoam, in Langley, just off Hwy.1 at 200 St. As per Einar's note, they ...
