Winterizing my roylex boat

This is the first Wisconsin winter I'll need to keep my wood trimmed Roylex boat in an unheated garage. I've heard I should back out screws on the gunnels to avoid cold cracks. Does this mean I need to unscrew the gunnels completely or some variation of that?

Thanks

Knee pain and boat choice.

I've been having trouble with knee pain and this summer has sucked. I've been running on a torn meniscus for years, have no trouble running, biking, skiing, but OC doesn't work so well. A few years ago a got into a Ledge and I've never been able to get too comfy in the bulkhead. I've got a 37" insea...

Re: Lost my Roll

Thanks for the advice guys. I did have better luck when I focused on keeping my head in the water as long as possible and the skill of looking at the decal on the side of the boat. My son kayaks and he offered that I am bringing my head up too soon as well. " its all about the head" he offered. Seem...

Lost my Roll

So this is the most frustrating thing, I'm pretty new to OC but 2 summers ago I had a pretty bomber pool roll and even hit a few on the river under pressure. I'd go out and roll 20-30 times in the pool and felt really comfortable. Last summer I couldn't paddle and this year I'm getting back out some...

Re: Portage wheels for my Ledge

Hazard Harry, that carts perfect. If I had one in carbon fiber that folded flat, I'd be golden! If you want to part with it let me know.

Re: Portage wheels for my Ledge

Thanks for the great ideas. I might play a bit with the pack back frame idea. The right setup could be cushy! I played around in the garage with a skateboard a little last fall, and it has possibilities. I've never mastered the shoulder carry but perhaps a block of foam glued on at just the right pl...

Portage wheels for my Ledge

I've developed a herniated cervical disc last summer so I think the days of carrying my Ledge on my head are over. I'm looking for a small light weight set of wheels that I can move the boat on, but them stuff in the boat somehow to paddle. Mostly for park and play laps but also to get the the boat ...

Re: New to whitewater canoeing, looking for some advice.

Ledge has been an awesome beginner/ intermediate boat for me. I was away from whitewater for years and needed a boat to get back into it. At 6'4" 220lbs the Ledge is perfect. Forgiving and the plastic hull is great when I fail at missing a rock or 3! Interesting boat since it's great for a beginner ...

I gotta put in a pitch for the Esquif Ledge. I'm 6'4" , 220, and I love this boat. On a good day I'm an advanced beginner and this boat is great. You'll see many posts on this site endorsing the boat for the bigger paddler. Interesting design in that it is outstanding for guys like us and some of th...

This could be a silly question, but a horizontal slot or vertical? I assume horizontal but could be wrong.

Wood Trim

It's my first winter with an ash trimmed boat in the northwoods. I know I need to deal with it so expanding/ contracting don't crack the royalex, but how far do I need to go? Just back the screws out? Remove the trim completely? Thanks in advance for your help.

Rolling Instructional Video?

I'm looking for an instructional video on rolling. My son has Jackson's Bracing and Rolling video for kayaking, which is excellent, and I'm hoping there is something similar out there for canoeing. I've seen most of the rolling video's on the site and elsewhere which are great, but must need somethi...

Anyone paddle the Esquif Raven? I'm looking for a little review.
