Re: Boat repair

I've done a number of hull repairs like the crack above. I've done the repair a couple of different ways over the years. I used to just cut back the outer skin layer until there was absolutely no more separation between the foam inside and the outer hard layer, and then cover it all with a glass kev...

Re: gluing vinyl d ring patches to royalex

Afterthought tip: When doing your prep, after you roughen up the surface, use a SMALL amount of MEK on a rag to wipe down the surface. The MEK is available at Lowes or Home Depot in the solvent isle, probably in or next to the paint stuff. This stuff will melt your hull if you use too much so notice...

Re: gluing vinyl d ring patches to royalex

Short answer: I can only say its never happened to me. Stabond has not let me down yet. More than one of my boats has spent the better part of nearly an entire Atlanta summer atop my jeep when I lived next to the Chattahoochee Hwy 41 take-out, and was paddling 3 days a week (instead of going to the ...

Re: gluing vinyl d ring patches to royalex

I've had crud luck with vynal adhesives glueing Drings to Royalex. Pulled many a Dring off mid-run on the Nanti in NC, which is mostly class II. Until I was told about Stabond. Ever since, in multiple boat outfitting over 20 years, and as recently as a full tandem Dring outfit for a tandem setup in ...

Re: near death Mad River Outrage

there is no amount of soft Royalex/separated layers, that can't be fixed with Gorilla Glue (to rebuild the foam core) and some S-Glass & Kevlar. I'll upload the full pics of the 'larger' patch job on my 1995 Dagger Rival here as soon as I organize my pics of the repair.. this is the smaller one here...

Re: removing old, broken outfitting.

I have heard of folks using Gorilla Glue for this purpose, but I have no experience with it. I've done extensive repair jobs basically rebuilding the inner foam core by using Gorilla Glue... the last big patch job I did a few months ago, i documented each step with pictures of the whole process... ...

Re: removing old, broken outfitting.

oh yeah, g flex for applying the new d ring correct? I would prep the surface with some MEK (careful not to use too much as it WILL melt your hull) and then Stabond for the adhesive and it will be like the grip of God. -also, if you can go find yourself some little 'rollers' so you can apply pressu...
