It's great to see people trying to expand the sport, and it's great to see canoe companies willing to take a little risk to get canoeing out there.

Good luck Smurf, I hope it all works out!

Buying D-Rings Online

Hey guys, I need to buy some vinyl D-Rings online for some last minute outfitting of my new boat, and I can't get to my usual store. Does anybody know the best place to buy them online? I'm looking for both the metal D-rings and the patches with just the canvas webbing for strap anchors. I imagine W...

Make sure you get the ends of the gunwales. It's often overlooked, but it's where the majority of the water will get if left untreated.

I'm surprised they don't treat them. For a 2,000 dollar boat, I guess I'd expect a buck or two's worth of tung oil.

AW went to a graded system to delineate between Class V and Class V

To my knowledge, it only goes from 5.0 to 5.3, 5.3 being a Class VI that has been run a few times.

The rating system is annoying, and could go for an update, but it is what it is

I don't know the particular difficulty of the rapids Tommy is running, but isn't anything above 5.0 considered V+? So if it's rated 5.2, then it's V+?

That's how it is on AW anyways

I'm no engineer, but I think at minimum, an 11-boat boat rack needs to have two sets of outriggers on either side for stability. If they are wide enough to accommodate four more boats...

I wouldn't classify it as an age thing just yet. I've gotten it since I was about 16, and it has flared up occasionally over the past five years or so. I attribute it to throwing too many curveballs. As far as treatment, rest doesn't necessarily mean stagnation. I've found that I get it from using o...

Thrill of the Paddle - Probably as close to encyclopedic for the sport of whitewater canoeing as it gets. Path of the Paddle - A bit dated, but still very informative, and has some great information on strokes that aren't as readily taught, as well as an entirely different approach to river running....

Ahh Canoesport Journal! That's a blast from the past. I have a bunch of old issues lying around my apartment, and all anyone ever comments on is how "interesting" the apparel was back then.

Harold Deal

Designed some great whitewater boats, and won the open boat class at the nationals an ungodly number of times, like 24 or more. Plus he's a real nice guy.

And gotta give props to the Godfather, Bill Mason.

The key to doing tounge-in-cheek is to make so over the top that it's obvious to at least 90% that you're not serious. Then we laugh at the 10% who get upset. When it's the other way around, you just look like a... word I can't say here. to get back on topic, I think I'd like to canoe this drop som...

They do realize that you can get a new version of the same boat for nearly the same price right? Less if it's not outfitted.
