New Rigging?

My Bell Ocoee has Mike Yee outfitting that has served me well over many multi-day trips. But I'd consider replacing the pedestal and rigging if there are newer, better options. Just paddled 71 miles over 5 days and my body would appreciate more comfort if there is such a thing. Don't plan on replaci...

Re: patching royalex

Resurrecting this thread. Time to work on my Bell Ocoee that's been down many a rocky river. The bottom has plenty of gouges (none into the foam but into the white) and there is a 2" crack under the pedestal. I'd like to put a protective layer of something that is durable but not heavy (ideally in r...

Re: Who makes an adjustable height pedestal?

Ezwater is correct, the San Juan. All of our river trips are a minimum of five days, which start to take a toll on the body. An adjustable pedestal wouldn't be necessary for piddly one- or two-day trips. I tried a 2" pad on the foam block as proof of concept and the comfort difference was dramatic b...

Who makes an adjustable height pedestal?

Just got back from an 8-day, 84-mile river trip in my Bell Ocoee. The longer days took 5 to 6 hours of paddling, often 2 hours or more without a break, and were brutal on my knees. So my next upgrade will be an adjustable height saddle. I'd like a bike saddle to rise up out of the pedestal for the f...

Royalex repair

So on a casual 7-day trip down the San Juan, I loaned my Bell Ocoee out for a half day and it now has a 3" crack, roughly in the center between the knees. Not sure how he managed that on a class 1 section but I bought the boat used so probably just a matter of time. Duct tape worked fine to finish t...

Anybody done their own conversion of an AB paddle? I have a 58" Odyssey I got super cheap. Finding the spring clips is easy. I'd prefer to make the cut higher up in the shaft but it's ovalized so finding tubing to match could be tough. Cutting lower where the shaft is round might be easier but not s...

My dad and uncle ran a whitewater canoe school in Virginia and West Virginia from '68 to about '75 (they started the second raft company in WVA in '72 -- it's still running though they sold out long ago). Back then: fiberglass canoes were heavy and fragile. Grumman made the best aluminum canoes and ...

Thanks for the feedback. All of my trips will have raft support so I just need to carry day gear. Probably will keep the Ocoee and try it for another trip or two. But I'll look into some of these other mentions and see if anything calls out to me. It's been fun getting back into canoeing after three...

Bell Ocoee -- What next?

Just took out from an 8-day trip down the Main Salmon in my Bell Ocoee. Bought it used this spring with Mike Yee outfitting and airbags for $700 to make sure I wanted to commit. Overall, I had a good trip and only swam a few times (a new Class 4 beat me up pretty good, most of the others were part o...

Given that a lot of "older" designs are still made, and considered quite good, the filtering works by type (click on "Rec" if you're not racing or looking for a longer OC1, then what your main use is, etc...). Tried that, still left me with 60+ boats and I know there aren't that many relevant. I re...

http://www.cboats.net/c_db/list.php?type=3 images, stats, basic info, and even a review for some boats. Thanks, the stats are a help. Would be nice to able to filter out older boats. Alas the photos don't show the important stuff like end view of the bottom and side profiles (but neither do company w...

That thread isn't much help. I'll try to demo once I've narrowed down the list. You can tell a lot ...

Solo WW canoe reviews?

Did a search for reviews here and on Google but not finding much. Getting bored with rafting and starting to think about a canoe for western rivers like Yampa, Ladore, Main Salmon, etc. The shops in Colorado only seem to know kayaks, for which I have zero interest. Are there any online reviews or bu...
