I love my Mitchell Premier. I got the wood shaft, carbon covered spooned blade. Awesome in performance & durability.

burp it
I love my dry-suit. When I put it on I crouch down & hug my knees to my chest while sticking a couple of fingers into the neck gasket. When the air stops coming out give a couple of quick sqeezes & some more will come. Put the skirt on & repeat. Get into the boat & repeat. When you flip, flip quick ...

Couldn't open it
PAC, I couldn't open your page. I paddled the Viper yesterday on the Appomattox. It's not nearly as edgy since I moved forward :) . It is much harder to stern-squirt now though  . I think the "permanent" backrest will be back where it was when I bought it. Then if I want to run bigger stuff I'l...

Appomattox in the morning
We're doing the Appomattox in the morning (Saturday). Be at the take-out (Rt 36 bridge) at 10:00am. As of now it'll be all C-boaters :P . KNeal, Joey, Brendan, any others? Wanna paddle my Viper? Level as of 20:30 was 5.68'. Looks like it'll level out before morning. No need to reply here. Just show ...

Mtn. Surf
I used an off the rack Bomber Gear skirt when I converted my Big EZ. It worked ok. It started coming apart, so I ordered a custom Mountain Surf ($15 puts the tunnel exactly where you want it). I got the ez on. It goes on easier than the Bomber Gear & has not blown yet. It's MUCH drier than the Bombe...

hot tub
Yeah, I paddled half of my boats out there this weekend :). That really wore me out. It felt real good to get back to the hotel & hop into the hot tub  You would only want to see the video to learn what NOT to do in slalom :-? I was embarassed to see that my paddling is that bad. While taping ...

saddle
Make your own saddle. jdschall did the fence post in his boat & made a saddle. The saddle has a channel cut out of the bottom that fits the fence-rail. There is velcro on the rain & saddle so that the seating position can be changed. It looks like a neat idae & he says it doesn't move around on him....

tips given to me
The guys who helped me learn offered the following: 1-It only gets worse if you swim. 2-You get air quicker by rolling than by swimming. 3-When you know you're going to flip, go ahead & set up. I'm usually set up before my head hits the water. This motion also speeds the rotation of the boat, so you...

100 dpy
In '02 & '01 I paddled over 100 days each year. I won't make it this year as I'm only up to day 65. I'm 15 minutes from a II-III park & play spot at low water. There is something to play on there at all flows from 1,800 to 35,000cfs, though the best surfing wave is at 1,800 to 2,200cfs.

somewhere in the middle
I'm 36. My dad took me down the Nottoway in his alluminim canoe in '96 when I was 28. I was hooked. I bought an old beat up glass 16' canoe. I smashed it a bunch & patched it a bunch. Then I bought a new Old Town Scout. Found I was paddling solo way more than tandem, so I bought a new Mohawk Probe 1...

I attempted slalom w/ the Viper
Pac, since you asked, here goes. I did the Natty Slalom this past weekend. Slalom is hard :-? . My hat is off to folks that can do it well. The Viper seemed a little faster with the new back-rest. I was happy to finish 2nd in a field of 3 :) . I paddled the Big EZ-C-1 in the playboat class & did not...

I moved it
I made a new temporary back-rest & duct taped it in tonight. It was too cold to glue  , so I now have duct tape :-? . It's 1 1/8" further forward than the old one. I will not have a chance to paddle untill the race Saturday  so I hope it works ok. If not, I've put extra foam, a big knife ...

HELP Viper trim question
The back-rest came out of my Viper tonight  . The boat is a full cut with the standard (small) cockpit opening. I'm 190lbs. The old back-rest was 1" thick at the center. Unless I lean forward, the stern deck slices through the water when paddling forward in flatwater (the stern tip is just at t...

Forward stroke
Definately watch "Drill Time". Another good one is "Long Distance Canoe Racing Techniques & Training", it's a flatwater video but has a real good section on the forward stroke. This afternoon while paddling my OC-1 for the 1st time in over a year, I thought about my strokes. It occured to me that at...
