Long Lost C-Boater wondering: what to paddle?

Hi All— Scott Wilkinson here—some of you may remember me from ages ago when I lived and paddled in the Mid-Atlantic region. I live in Eugene, Oregon these days (since 2017). For those that don't know me, I was a slalom C-1er for many years back in the late 80's/early 90s. I've kinda grown away from ...

Kayak conversions—and catching up!

Hey Everyone! It's probably been years since I last posted here, so great to see the forum alive and well. :-) I'm living in Eugene, Oregon now—the land of "See what? See one—is that what you said? What is that???" ;-) Due to life obligations, I've paddled almost none since moving out west (from Wes...

Re: Riversport Slalom August 17-18

I don't know any details...but it had something to do with (my interpretation) an idiot pilot flying dangerously low over the water and running into wires across the river. (I don't think anyone was hurt...) And it would be like the bureaucracy to blame the wires and not the pilot. <rolling eyes> Sc...

Re: Slippery Rock Creek Clinic June 1 & 2

Hi PAC---this sounds like fun, and I'm going to try to make it up from Morgantown. I've known about Slippery Rock Creek for decades but never paddled it. Is it generally all open boaters? I'd be willing to do some teaching, but I'll be in a C-1.

Re: Riversport Slalom August 17-18

Hi Jim...I live in Morgantown now and am itching to paddle in gates again, so I'll be there! I may be able to drive up Thursday evening after work and help with course construction (plenty of experience there!), so I'll let you know as we get closer. On a different topic...is there any chance the ga...

Re: SUP! (Stand Up Paddleboarding)

Hmm...interesting perspectives. I still want to try it, if only to say I have. Perhaps the boards are clunkier and heavier than I thought they were? Also, it seems like you could paddle them in a similar style to a flatwater Olympic C-1 (but maybe not?) Theoretically I don't see why you couldn't do ...

SUP! (Stand Up Paddleboarding)

Okay, I know they aren't canoes...or are they? Just wondering who here has tried SUP (stand up paddleboarding)? I'm REALLY excited about this and am going to rent one for a week at the beach later this month to give it a try. It's a FAST-growing sport, probably the fastest-growing paddlesport out th...

Checking in after long absence...

Hi Everyone! It's Scott Wilkinson---checking in after a LONG absence (both from here and from paddling). Hope everyone is well and I'm glad to see the C-Forum still alive and well. My life has taken a few big turns over the past few years...got divorced, then into another relationship...my GF and I ...

Hi Neal! Thanks---but I feel like I've been so out-of-the-loop that I've practically stabbed the C-community in the back! LOL (Hopefully I'll be more in the loop!) I've been finding myself in Richmond more often lately---PM me your phone number and I'll give you a call next time I'm down---it's been...

New Longboating Forum!

Hi Everyone... As a longtime C-boater and slalom racer, I've been perpetually dismayed by the explosive popularity and growth of ultra-short freestyle playboats (kayaks, and yes---C1 conversions). Not dismayed because there is anything wrong with short playboats...but because the proliferation of th...

Official apology for not showing!

I owe everyone a big apology---after saying I was pumped about the armada (true!), I was a no-show. Dave Miller's excuse was that he had a wedding to attend in Connecticut. Chris and Trevor Soileau's excuse was that they're training for team trials (C-2) and thought it better to hang in DC. I don't ...

Hmm...I've been paddling the NB for years and have no clue where the water treatment plant is! In my experience, people always pull over first at that red brick building (on the right, just across the Savage River bridge), then figure out the shuttles, then leave a few cars at the takeout, then head...

Thanks for the good advice all. I realized what I have to do before anything else is keep my leg fully bent/folded for hours (not easy!) until a scab forms in the bent position. Otherwise, everytime I bend my leg the whole thing rips open---ouch!

By "liquid bandage" do you mean something like the Curad "spray-on" bandage? If so, YIKES! :) I tried some of that last night...sprayed it on, and WHOOAA did it HURT! I was literally doubled over in agony for a good minute---felt like my knee was in FLAMES! :-? I don't want to miss paddling, so I'll...

Skinned knee---AARRGGHH!!!!

While hang gliding yesterday (my other sport), the wind switched on a landing approach and I bellied in, skinning the hades out of my knee in the process. AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Now I have a serious case of road rash. What could be worse for a C-boater? :( I'm worried about paddling Saturday. Pis*es me off...
