Re: kneeling thwarts
Thanks Nick; pretty interesting. I will take a closer look at the mechanics re brass rod etc. As for sliding, I did not do anything fancy like in the other link re foam seat. The canoe came w/ narrower wooden thwarts about 3" maybe. Just wrapped some closed cell foam from a sleeping pad that covers...

Re: kneeling thwarts
Hi Bob,
Thanks for your input. I will look into the foam idea. It definitely sounds like the easier idea. I just have to find a source around here. I was just curious as to how you had mounted the hardware for hinge etc to boat. What foundation was used as a mounting point etc. Thanks again.

Re: kneeling thwarts
Bob P, am disappointed you did not have a pin or hinge alternative. Those that you did in the past, how did they work/hold up in long term?

Re: inner tubes & kneeling thwarts
I was told to contact Bob P re kneeling thwarts, but saw the tractor inner tube comment & had to chime in. My first real whitewater trip was on Wolf R, Wisc years ago. I used my Mad River Guide & for floatation crammed two truck inner tubes in bow & stern. They definitely weighed more than the canoe...

Re: kneeling thwarts
Thanks Broam. That is definitely a simple application. Now just have to find a couple chunks of closed cell foam to wedge in under each thwart.

Re: kneeling thwarts
Thanks Mike W. & EZWater. Another friend mentioned a pull pin or clevis pin. Not having done much re outfitting a canoe ( my solo boats, a Rival & Prophet all came outfitted & luckily fit me ), my concern is anchoring hinges etc. If you or anyone else runs across pictures of such set-ups as hinging ...

kneeling thwarts
Recently got a Dagger Caption which has kneeling thwarts. I have used a kneeling thwart in another canoe before so very familiar & comfortable with. A friend pointed out an incident involving kneeling thwart where paddler got pinned in canoe. Bottom of boat got compressed, pinning paddler's legs be...

OC1KEV, it is your move. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, cbates took too long to respond & I found another Caption. This one looks good. Good luck.

Re: Caption outfitting for Class III and up
Can any of you give me some info on outfitting a tandem WW canoe? Am fairly new to this & some of language/terms used am not familiar with. I am not sure I want a triple saddle due to weight factor. Other than using it for solo also, is there any advantage? The boat in question will be used primaril...
