Re: voyageur nylon-urethane split seam repair

I use Aquaseal for the repair. There's no need to keep the Aquasealed seam as narrow as the original seam. I just make it about 1" wide. Clamp the whole length using lengths of wood on each side squeezed between clamps as needed. Or attach clamps on each side of the repaired area but outside of the ...

Re: Saddle mods for a kid?

I'd check your son's leg positioning. With short legs on an adult-height saddle, his thighs are probably almost straight down with nothing for thigh straps or a lap belt to hold on to. You may have to cut the saddle down first before either option will work. You can always add minicell for adults.

Re: Saddle Removal

Take out all the support structure (thwarts etc.) fill with water and let sit. saddle will want to float and will detach with time. You can speed up the process but putting stress on the saddle - gently of course. That's what I call working smarter, not harder. And salt water would make the saddle ...

Re: Saddle Removal

While paddling in the ocean I have always marveled at the way salt water and beach sand is able to cleanly remove well-attached minicell outfitting. Thinking it was the sand, I tried putting fine sand in the bottom and basically jamming it in while removing outfitting. It didn't work any better than...

Re: Saddle Removal

If the hull is truly reduced to rubble, why not cut the Rx around the saddle and then separate it with it out of the "boat". Otherwise, small putty knives, trowels, hacksaw blades, etc. If you do mess up the bottom pretty badly getting it out (and you probably won't), the worst that could happen is ...

Re: Canoe Shipping Question

Kaz just shipped a Shacho from his place in NH to Buffalo, NY via Old Dominion Freight Lines. Kaz shipped on Monday and the boat was in Buffalo and and picked up on Wednesday at noon. The shipping cost: $101.79! What a deal. Thanks Kaz!

Re: L'Edge re-outfitting question

I use wood but not dowel. I coat it in Watco first. I use square stock. The flat sides seem to resist the hole in the saddle getting bigger and floppier over time. Of course the drilled hole in the saddle is still round but I use big enough wood stock that it is tight. Sorry, no pics.
