Lol re paddling a composite boat makes one a better boater. I started off in a Grumman 17' with a shoe keel. It does the same thing. One sure doesnt want to hit rocks in that thing. The funny thing is that now folks see that canoe (retired from ww use last year when I decided that new canoes were ch...

Thanks
I am working on 3 old wooden paddles right now. I did two already, and they held up to brutal conditions in rock garden after rock garden, but now one needs redoing as a result.
The part about using a trough was news to me. I can see how that will really help.

Lonesome George
sbroam, I hear yah. I am reminded of a line by Lonesome George Gobel uttered on Johnny Carsons show years ago. He was with Dean Martin and maybe Frank Sinatra. He looks around and says "Do you ever feel like a pair of old brown shows & the rest of the word is a tuxedo?" Lol

Boat advice re Nantahala trip
TSRA is having a trip for all levels (including newbies) on the Nanty. I have run the Nanty a good number of times, but will be the first for my wife who just got into ww last year. Shes been on the Hiwassee a couple of times, we ran the upper sections of the Buffalo river in AR last month, and she ...

Hope you enjoy your boat
Hey Dennis,
It was great meeting you and your wife as well. I really hope you enjoy the boat. I will have to check out that Yankee whiskey you mentioned

Crazy idea
Instead of glue I suggested hardware. Others brought up ways to do it, and rightly suggested that having a backing to screw into was needed. I agree. Good ideas. If you have a "hollow" sit on top, and cant reach inside to put a backing in place to hold screws, and dont want to either cut the hull to...

Perhaps look at the attachment system on the dagger torrent?
One person posted something like "nothing sticks". I noticed that on the dagger torrent they appear to use stainless steel screws/hardware to attach their straps. This is all from viewing the pics. I figure if dagger is using hardware for attachment, maybe there is a reason. Next question: Where to ...

Got to agree with jroneil
The reason why I have an old town appalachian when I have an esquif blast is pretty much the reason given by jroneil. I started my wife and I off tandem way too early/soon on the esquif then had to start over. I love that appalachian btw. Its one sweet boat. We have a good time in it. She likes the ...

Old Town Appalachian
The question was about a high volume tandem for class III. I got to think the appy is the way to go. Its got capacity out the wazoo and handles darn well. Yeah, its not a hot boat by todays standards and is old school, but handles like a dream and you could carry out an elk in the darn thing while r...

Nah, its me who wish they had'nt posted
Nah Dooley, It's me who should prolly apologise. I was venting. I meant to be humourous on "Worst Post Title Ever". I mentioned how we in Middle TN were stumped and ticked off that our story wasnt getting out. Well, here I am bitching about someone who had no idea what the situation here is, and it ...

I expect you are right about dooley being a great fellow. And I was at pains to temper my remarks. Ie gentle reminder that its actually bad and gotten worse here. Actually there is growing anger over the situation here. The national news have covered a bomb that didnt go off and an oil slick they ca...

The worst post name in history
Harrrump! I live in Middle TN. As a matter of fact my wife and I took our Old Town Appalachian and Sea Eagle up yesterday after Metro Nashville Police put out a call for anything that floats to help with rescues. I have been a boater for some long while now. And I sure understand excitement over goo...

Come one down. We can paddle the Interstates
Pierre, The water in my land is so fine that folks were paddling on Interstate hiways yesterday. Folks were calling me asking about borrowing a canoe. You prolly saw on the news footage of flooding in TN. Where I live (the town), we got the worst of that rain yesterday. But assuming that you would r...
