Re: Instructor training that allows for small boats?

If you are talking about ACA Instructor Certification, it should be suitable for any size canoe. That said, as an instructor, you need to use the kind of boat that you expect to teach someone about, or it will be hard to give them good feedback. Instruction Certification doesn't teach you to paddle ...

Re: General Canoeing Technique Advice

And a 58" paddle is NOT necessarily too long. Just depends on your preferred style and trunk length. I paddle with a 57" and I am 5'11", but it does raise my T-grip hand to forehead level, which some people don't like.

Re: General Canoeing Technique Advice

Hi Peter, I am a WW canoe instructor, and just moved to Santa Barbara with my family. What part of the state are you in? I would be very happy to try to get togehter for either formal instruction or just some paddling with a few pointers thrown in here and there. I paddled an Option for 2 years befo...

Re: Question for the SOB's

The L'Edge and the Octane 92 are the most likely to work for you, but I think trying the Spanish Fly might be an interesting experience. It's not a perfect boat by any means, but there is a reason that it has been in production for so long! It's a lot of fun in the right kind of water.

Re: Question for the SOB's

dangit, stroker, I just left there! Seriously, there are some good open boaters there, and several boats you can try. First, hit up the Arkansas Canoe Club message board: http://forums.arkansascanoeclub.com Several people who would probably let you try out their boats: Cole M. has a Spanish Fly Brya...

Sep. 13th Deerfield (MA) or somewhere in southern VT/NH?

I am going to be in Boston for work, and I picked up the Atom in VT from the For Sale forum. Anyone available to paddle? I would be up for Fife Brook, or could even be convinced to do the Dryway (although my first time in an Atom might not be the best choice.) Anything else within a daytrip distance...

Re: Blackfly 91

I haven't paddled the 85, but even a Taureau was stable compared to a Prelude. Try a L'Edge or an Option as well if you can.

Bump. Still available. Still looking for cash to replace other boats that I am only part owner of, and therefore have to leave behind when I move.

Re: Scotland OC1

Is there a time of year that one could travel to Scotland and be *almost* guaranteed good water? I was an exchange student at Striling back in college, before I was a paddler, but even then I looked at the Etive and other rivers during trips with the mountaineering club and thought "Wow that looks l...

Re: Millbrook Inferno $650

Well, I'm getting a little more motivated. I guess I am open to serious offers. It just seems such a shame for this boat to gather dust. Did I mention it has several OC Slalom national titles to it's name (All former owners, none mine :D )

Thanks,
Paul

Re: Tow tether suggestions.

I had a long tether (Astral Webtoe), and flipped every time I tried to tow a boat full of water with it. I sold it and bought a short NRS tether. The other reason I didn't like the Astral tether is because it put the carabiner out of my reach, With the shorter tether, I can reach back and manipulate...

Re: Millbrook Inferno $650

Thanks!!! I had done some other composites work before, but the first time I did this specific work. I used the plastic-wrap method to try to keep it super clean, and just took everything ne step at a time. I was very nervous doing it, but felt really good about how it came out. Glad to hear I wasn'...
