Re: DIY Break down paddle

Well, there's this: http://wheelsandwater.blogspot.com/2011/06/making-breakdown-paddle.html You could take those instructions and improvise. I believe, though, that the current manufacturer of Mohawk paddles makes T-grip adapters to convert a 2-piece kayak paddle into 2 canoe paddles. With one of th...

Re: making a c1 pirouette?

Old perception seats are a bugger to get out. The seat bolts thread into brass plates inside the seat. Remove those screws, then see if you can slide the seat enough to get the walls out of the ends of the seat. After that you can twist the seat around and pop it out of the boat.

Re: Anyone ever chop the ends off a Gyromax?

I remember some lads chopped the ends off a dancer (whilst it was much younger and still flexible), they just squashed the ends together flat and bolted them with some bathroom sealant in between. It was only ever used in a pool AFAIK. I assume they used a propane torch to head the ends before flat...

Re: Anyone ever chop the ends off a Gyromax?

Probably better off to start with something else that's already 2 feet shorter, with less pointy ends. Then go find a good ender spot and enjoy the Gyramax for what it is.

Re: Dagger Ultrafuge C1?

Should be a good play toy. In my K1 days, that was one of the few boats I could easily cartwheel in flat water. I was about 160ish IIRC

Re: making a c1 pirouette?

I converted a Super Sport one time. It was "usable", but not what I would call a good conversion- very narrow. It got converted back pretty quickly in favor of something better.

Re: Mystic as C1

Well worth it, it's a great c1. Might have to trim the inside edge of the cockpit rim a bit to make some room. But its stable, comfortable, and predictable and has a nice edge to it.

Re: Pump electronics and L'Edge welding questions

You're using a 12 volt battery and not a 6 volt, right? (not being snide, they look similar.) Pump motor running slowly is either low voltage, or something tangled in the pump impeller. If you have a multimeter handy, check the voltage drop throughout the circuit. The pump should use all 12v. Also, ...

Re: C1 conversion: straps v. bulkhead

I used a similar setup in mine (also a Mystic coincidentally). I used 2 pieces of aluminum angle for a center channel, Thigh straps bolted to the angle. Then I added a 1x3 wood thwart across the front of the cockpit, roughly where Gwyn's plastic one is. The foam bulkhead is stuffed under the thwart ...

I just bought a Rocker as well. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it feels pretty good.

Re: diy paddle blade

Easiest method would be a wood/glass blade. That eliminates the need for molds, etc. Foam core might work too- carve sheet foam into blade shape, glass the outside. Seems like a worthy experiment.

Re: Getting the young ones out in open boats

A lot of older 11-13' boats make decent tandems and make for good cheap thrills.

Re: What is the most difficult CBoat you've ever paddled?

I got in one of the Mentors once. Ferried accros a time or two, didn't feel too bad. Adam floats past: "You might want to try rolling it..." Hmm, not a bad idea. Flipped over, rolled up, immediately went over backwards. This turned into an endless series of ever accelerating Screw-ups until I starte...

Re: Tandem boating, but drier. . .

I had a Topolino (not a duo) for a long time. I tried it as a c1 jut for kicks and it was terrible. It's a very round hull with no primary stability. I think the duo is pretty similar, just a bit wider. The Jackson might be a better experiment as it seems to be a flatter hull. How about a cut down, ...

Re: impulsive purchase: whitesell pirahna & paddling with k

I took an old Viper 12, and set it up as a tandem/solo with a rather long saddle. Works really well with me and my 5 year old. Its big enough to handle the extra weight, but small enough that I can horse it around without a lot of input from him. As with the nitro, it doesn't seem that sensitive to ...
