Some features I would like to see: - Circulation pump sleeves like they give bed-ridden patients at hospitals - Steel toes for stomping wise-a$$ butt-boaters - A flask (see the Reef brand Dram sandal) - Integrated rollerskates (see Heelys brand shoes) for running shuttle - Electronic bilge pump - Fo...

I agree. They are hard to come by these days. I'm always on the lookout.

What do kayaking and your buddy's girlfriend have in common?

They're both really fun until your buddy catches you.

I'll confess to having taken a few K1 Wavehopper runs this year.

I generally use a 58" Mitchell with a curved blade. I broke the dynel edging off the Mitchell so I borrowed a 54" staight-shaft H2O team c1 paddle. I had very low expectations. The blade shape is strange and it was the ugliest paddle I've ever seen aside from the h20 kayak paddles. I LOVED it. Lots ...

I recently had a similar mishap with a low-head dam while tubing. The victim was similarly lucky to have not drowned. I was amazed at just how invisible the feature was from upstream. I nearly went over it myself. In this case, none of us were trying to be stupid and run something we shouldn't. We s...

I usually just heat the rim slowly with a heat gun, throw a towel over my thighs, get in and lean forward over the deck to push the cockpit rim up. I do one side at a time. It takes about 15 minutes and works great.

I'm about your size and I use a 58" paddle. I would say start with a 56" or 58" paddle and see how that feels. I think your plan to start with thigh straps is a good one. You may quickly choose to add a bulkhead simply because of how much you will still be able to move around inside the boat with th...

Great account and well written.

Question: What were the circumstances that lead your crew to decide to leave a loose rope in the river?

Got any pics of the Slasher with just a bulkhead? I've got a Slasher with some outfitting issues and could use a little inspiration.

Those buckles typically suck. The gates pop off under pressure. I stopped using them because they fail when you really need them.

You can find them at EMS. They're usually behind the counter in a tray of buckles, clips, and the like. I've seen them at various other outfitters in the Northeast.

Take care not to overheat. The plastic should never get shiny. If the towel is leaving marks in the plastic, you have overheated the rim.

Because of the large area you will be working on, it may make sense to do it one side at a time.

I usually heat the rim slowly with a heat gun, lay some towels over my thighs and push the rim up with my legs while kneeling in the boat. Pretty easy. I've done this many times and it works well.

I use airplane seatbelts. They are aluminum so they are light and don't rust. They are easy to exit. I drill two holes in the gate and attach a practice golf ball using a small piece of rope. This makes the gate release much easier to find. There are a few ways to get them: 1) Seatbelt extensions Ob...
