I've wondered why there isn't an open boat with enclosed bow and stern like sea kayaks. The cockpit could even have a rim for a spray skirt. And the bow and stern could be equiped with a hatch for dry storage. This would also eliminate the need for air bags. I realize this would make the boat heavi...

Outfittings done...sort of.

Bump. It looks great. I paddled it in flatwater yesterday. Rolled a bunch of times just for fun. There are a few minor issues to address but nothing to prevent me from paddling like it is - shave a little off the saddle (it's 7 1/2"), place for a water bottle etc. I'll try and get some photos posted...

Great job!

What thickness is your plastic? I bought mine yesterday and it's 1/4". It's white which kinda surprised me. Questions. questions. questions: How did you break over your angles like the ones that bolt the rail to the plastic strap? That seat back is really neat. Did you glue or use a plastic welder? ...

plastic

I called a local plastic supply house and the guy who answered the phone was a paddler. He suggested the 1/4" HDPE - at $85 for a 4X8 sheet :o Anyway he wasn't keen on using ABS because it doesn't perform as well when its cold. McMasters has got 1/2 sheets for $37.50. At that price I could drive to ...

Hey mshelton that's exactly what I had in mind! How'd it work out?
I checked out McMasters. They've got it. If I can't find what I need locally Atlanta's not far away. That place is better than Grainger and that's sayin a lot. Thanks for the link.

Thanks. I think I'm gonna start with kneecups and thighstraps. I can add the bulkhead if I need it later. Now, about that plastic sheet...I was thinking that a big sheet of HDPE (black plastic like the dagger pedestal) would be a more elegant way to secure the rail than the aluminum barstock. Do you...

On my way

I found a forplay for sale locally. Bought it last night. I test drove it on the lake by sitting on my helmet :) Thanks to everybody who took the time to answer my questions. Specially so since after I'd spent some time in the archives I realized that you guys answer that question over and over and ...

About that sitting position. He's doing that 'cause its fast. With your feet on a good brace and toe straps you can really activate the big muscles in your core as well as the thighs. If you're really hitting a good sit 'n switch paddle stroke your legs will be cycling almost like running in place. ...

OK the search is on. I found this classified site:

http://www.kayaklink.com/

There are several foreplays close by and in my price range. Not many scores and no daggers.

Are there any other sources I can look at?

Ok I looked and I get the sinking feeling that the Score is too big (i'm 150#). I asked about the score 'cause it was lower volume than the Z and still had the length. If it'll be fast (relatively) and still surf well then maybe it's pretty close to what I want. I think burying the ends is a long wa...

Thanks Craig.

I hadn't seen the wavesports before. The Z looks good. Also, how about the Score? Has anybody paddled it? What about as a C1?

Beginner w/ lots of questions (long)

Hi ya'll. I spent the weekend learning river running in a C-1 conversion. This was my first whitewater paddling in over 10 years and I had a blast. I've been paddling a marathon C-1 daily for 3 years so basic boat-handling was not new to me. Now I want to do a lot more of this and I'm wondering what...
