Re: C1 conversions and airplane buckle releases
I like a quicker release. Especially good when things are turbulent and I want air.

C1 conversions and airplane buckle releases
In my C1 conversions, I have found inconsistencies in airplane buckles and the tab release. I have a good pair that release with only a small lift of the hinged tap, and another pair that I won’t install because they require opening the tab nearly 90 degrees. I bought both pairs from an ebay seller....

Re: PFD types and rolling
Little things may help but how can you ever be confident in your skills knowing that a new PFD or helmet is going to keep you from rolling? What if your nose plugs fall out or you forget to burp your drysuit? It's worth mentioning that the PFD in question is the green jacket.... Here's the furtrapp...

Re: Need a new PFD
Check out the Astral Green Jacket and Sea Wolf - they are basically the same, but the Sea Wolf comes without chest harness (can be retrofitted). What I like is that although there is a front pocket, it has less bulk than most modern river running BAs and when you are kneeling you can adjust the fro...

Re: PFD types and rolling
Rick, like you, I was reluctant to blame my gear. In fact, during the three days of paddling--my first in cold water clothing for a year--I blamed the brisk water and associated shock and brain freeze. But by the end of the last day I also realised that my low brace was poor. I just couldn't get low...

Oops...I don't know how I missed that recent thread that is VERY similar to this one. Apologies. If the mods see fit, combine the threads.

PFD types and rolling
I wore an Astral Green Jacket for the first time over the weekend and I reckon it made me miss all my rolls. I paddle almost exclusively with K1s and many rave about the Astral Green. So when it was time to replace mine, I bought one. The fit is great and so is the storage. But I don’t think it’s go...

Re: New Zealand--C1?
Anyone know Greg Bristol? An NZ slalom paddler suggested that he might be able to offer tuition, but failed to pass on any details.

Re: New Zealand--C1?
Hi NZ C1er,
Thanks for the offer. I'll get in touch if I go to the South Island.

Re: New Zealand--C1?
Thanks Gwyn for you post here and email. And NZ Matt has been in touch via pm.
The short of it is that there's not much C1 tuition there, though there's plenty of top rivers to paddle. Might just go with my K1 buddies in summer anyway and try to meet any local C-boaters.

New Zealand--C1?
I’m interesting in a C1 paddling holiday in New Zealand when things warm up, to take my C1 paddling to the next level. I’d like to join a formal group for tuition/river running, if there is one. I have K1 mates who’ve had a great time at the NZ Kayak School, and the school has expressed interest in ...

Re: C1 Remix conversion
I'd like to see one of those bulkhead conversions in the flesh. Prior to this, I've only paddled OCs with bulkheads. An attraction for using kneestraps over a bulkhead is the adjustability. Plus, the kneestraps maintain their shape so that the paddler can slide their knees in, upon entering the boat...

Re: C1 Remix conversion
It is my first conversion and the absence of a bulkhead seemed like a good way to keep the space under the bow deck easily accessible for trips.
