My go-to has been "red can" DAP / Weld wood contact cement, most often from my local ACE hardware.

The image is one Roy posted of a drilled out plastic paddle, not a wood one. I'll try and track an image of the wood ones down - I couldn't find it yesterday (too many images of paddling, skiing, and of course kids!)

It started out as a rough sawn true 1"; if purchasing finished lumber you may need to purchase "5/4" depending on what shaft diameter you want (with the shaft the thickest part that is where to start).

After looking for a bit I gave up and made my own - a pine board, traced the shape I wanted based on down-sizing an adult paddle, cut the basic shape out with a saw, then an hour or so with a draw knife followed up with some sanding and a few coats of poly. I'd give Kaz a call at Millbrook and see if he can build you one. Compared to most boat builders he doesn't charge nearly enough IMhO.

If you are looking to paddle but not race I'd say you should definitely check out a Millbrook Amoeba - higher volume and fast. Kaz may have other molds kicking around... worth a call anyway....
