Re: C-1 "listing" or leaning to onside(?)
I always lean to my onside, it keeps my paddle blade more deeply in the water for more of the stroke and it leans me towards an onside brace... rather than a situation where I tip towards my offside where I'm unlikely to make a save

Come to Ledyard Riverfest next weekend!
This coming weekend (April 12-14), the Ledyard Canoe Club will be holding our annual Riverfest in and around Hanover, NH. The event is a fundraiser for AW but also a really cool way to meet local boaters, participate in two whitewater races, and drink FREE BEER. On Friday we'll have a run/bike/paddl...

Re: Jackson Karma... M or L?
Thanks for the input Bernie. I appreciate the offer to try the boat out but that's quite a road trip for me! I'll be getting it with Jackson C1 outfitting from the factory. I had to call Jackson to figure this out but despite the outfitting package costing $250 on its own, if you get a hull outfitte...

Re: Jackson Karma... M or L?
I've pretty much been sold on the medium instead of the large. A Mountainbuzz thread I turned up when searching for info on the boat mixed things up a bit because everyone who'd actually paddled the large said it felt maneuverable and easy to handle, compared to what the numbers would suggest... but...

Jackson Karma... M or L?
I'm looking at the new Jackson Karma and really like the idea of the boat-- not only because Jackson will send me C1 outfitting from the factory, but because the length, width and what's been described as a flat bottomed hull sound like all of the characteristics that I really, really liked in my Da...

Bliss-stick Tuna?
Has anyone converted a Tuna yet? I looked at one this spring and the guy who owned it (a kayaker) said that it had a whole lot of volume, but also tracked well and made edgy eddy turns almost like a slalom boat. His main complaint was that it was hard to turn around off an eddyline because of the ed...

Re: C1 Rolling and PFD advice
I agree that if you sweep out further to set up you'll have an easier time of not hitting your boat. Compared to a kayak, I feel your life jacket floats you way closer to the surface when you're leaning out to the side of a C1 and I feel comfortable making that my setup position. Leaning 90 degrees ...

Re: c1 release buckles
I use the same style buckles that life jacket quick release rescue belts use. 2" buckles, with 2" flat (seatbelt style) webbing. Because they bite into the webbing instead of having 2 halves of a buckle, adjustments are simplified by just running the webbing more or less far through the buckle each ...

Re: lost then found
Always a good idea to have contact info on your gear... A friend of mine lost a boat on a creek in VT last spring, 3 months later someone found it floating many many miles downstream in the Connecticut and he got it back!

Atom for sale in NH
Quite a few scratches, but no cracks and it should have a lot of life left in it. Comes with a Perception skirt with a large tunnel, and I can throw in a 54" paddle if you want. It's purple. I'll post pictures soon

Re: Asking about water proof Cameras
I've heard good things about the Olympus Tough series (including earlier in this thread), but stay AWAY from the low-end Olympus waterproof cameras. I have a 550WP which is a waterproof "version" of one of their cheaper cameras from a few years back and isn't in the Tough line. It has awful battery ...

Re: Ok, what's the fastest whitewater boat you've paddled?
In terms of C1s, the Gyramax has a ton of speed but the Atom feels faster to me on whitewater, I think because it has a little better acceleration. I haven't paddled the Millbrook composite boats but out of the OC1s I've paddled definitely the Spark

Re: What is the most fun boat you've ever paddled?
While I'm increasingly having problems with the Atom's low volume and catchy deck on harder water, the edginess and speed makes it a blast when I'm not upsidedown

Re: How to prepare body for max comfort (knees)
My biggest problem has always been my ankles when they're flat on the bottom of a C1. That always gets better later in the season... this spring my first day out was an almost uninterrupted run of the Nolichucky. Ouch! But towards the end of the spring I didn't have any ankle pain. Definitely seems ...
