Re: rivets

[quote="wildwaterc2"] Have you experienced problems with a regular style on vinyl gunwales and Royalex? I have two boats I've done like this with no problems with it. /quote] Wildwater2 got me thinking. Gunwales come in many styles and shapes but if it ends up being aluminum-royalex-aluminum it make...

Re: rivets

What Bob said. Most hw stores carry the expanding rivets not the tri-folds for soft material.

Re: Solo Canoe Advice.

Sounds like we are on parallel paths. I weigh 210 and carry about the same amount of gear and love the Prodigy X as a river runner.. I also test paddled a Outrage X and I thought it was ok but sluggish in comparison. I still have my Prodiigy X and use it when the water levels are down but bought a M...

Re: Air bag repair

1 or 2 cups should do it. You just need enough to coat the whole inside of the bag. No need to make a water balloon.

Re: Air bag repair

What cheajack said. Jeremy's method works great. If you start with a dry air bag and carefully pour in the soapy water it even works for multiple pin holes. Fill it with air and rotate the bag around. The biggest hole will start to blow bubbles but if you wait a while and have more leaks you can see...

Re: Dragonskin Substitute?

These cheap Styrofoam sharper tools work well for outside shaping and last way longer than Dragon Skin. I still prefer DragonSkin taped to a pool noodle for inside the bulkhead leg holes. Just bought some and didn't realize they stopped making it. Probably old stock http://img.photobucket.com/albums...

Re: ideas for lightweight thwarts

Next question!? Ideas for light material, plastic or otherwise, for a OC Slalom regulation bow deck plate. I have used storage tub lids on my Ocoee but it had to be done in two pieces and tends to buckle in the sun. Plan to check out a plastic supply company in Missoula the next time I'm there. Hat...

Re: Ovation pedestal placement

The measured center isn't necessarily the center of balance on a asymmetrical hull. Try floating the hull without paddler or pedestal on a calm body of water without wind, waves or current. Add a couple of cups of water and mark the center of the puddle. Putting your center of mass slightly behind t...

No Tohicken Release

The Tohicken whitewater release did't happen this weekend. A lot of cars with boats driving around looking at an empty creek. Here is the best explanation of why it happened I've found. Turns out they did test the valve but it picked release morning to fail. http://www.theintell.com/news/local/white...
