Re: New to whitewater canoeing, looking for some advice.
I started WW canoeing this year as well, and have been paddling a Mohawk Probe 12. I like it so far. I'm almost your exact size/weight. I also tried an older boat, a Dagger Impulse with a Perception saddle. I found it very forgiving and easy to paddle as a newbie. I instantly felt more in control of...

Re: wenonah rogue vs OT appalachian
OT Appalachian here, and I love it. Never paddled a rogue. It's an excellent big tandem for the WW you're talking about. I've never felt it to be too slow on flatwater, but then the only flat water I have taken it on is the pools between the drops. I've never used it on a lake/pond/swamp etc. I thin...

Re: What's the most forgiving beginner boat still made?
This past weekend I let a very experienced butt-boater paddle my ledge in the pool, he had a real hard time making it go straight. As far as stability goes its top notch but a beginner is going to find it almost impossible to go forward in a short boat. I'm a beginner and struggle making a Probe 12...

Re: How much of you teach canoeing
I'm going to give the perspective of someone trying to learn WW canoeing. It is very difficult to find instructor led courses in WW canoeing for someone who is a beginner. I live in NE Georgia, in a region that seems to be the hot-bed for open boating. Over the last 9 months, I have been researching...

Re: How many new canoes have you bought lately?
I bought 2 new boats in the last year, although one was a fishing kayak (Jackson Coosa). I sold it after a few months though and bought a factory fresh Odyssey 14 from Mohawk. Picked it up myself in Chattanooga. Since then I have purchased (used) a OT Appalachian & Mohawk Probe 12. My path to WW can...
