In some ways. Obviously they handle very differently, but most of the qualities I like in my ion were also there in the phantom.

Re: Dagger Phantom Approximation?

the ion paddles VERY similarly. lots of volume (corkish), stable, easy to turn, easy to roll, and fairly dry. i havent been in one much, but i was surprised by how much i liked it, and some of the similarities. btw, im 5'9" and around 110-115 pounds (though still growing fast).

Re: Any tips for lightening an Option?

also, kaz's boats are very high quality and nice designs. the reason were all not paddling them is durability and not having to worry about banging them on rocks. we are, after all, lazy by nature. Maybe, I think the design and quality should be a bigger factor actually. We'd all be paddling Kaz's b...

Re: Any tips for lightening an Option?

Man up! :D That weights just the price you pay for such a great boat in pe. I don't think there's any effective way to cut down the weight by more than an ounce or two except by cutting off the gunwales. And always remember- its lighter than a l'edge.

Re: Extreme discomfort in l'edge

try raising the saddle. that can help a lot. also, try to get more flexible- just start stretching or kneeling on a block when youre watching tv or whatnot. it really helps. also, are they true toeblocks or footpegs? footpegs tend to be more comfortable as they support a little more of your foot.

raft sticks work just fine. a bit heavier, and a bit less catch, so i prefer others, but they work perfectly fine.

Re: Which paddle is right for a newbie?gotta buy soon...help

find a kayak paddle with the blade cracked or broken, cut it to length, and stick a t grip on it. can usually be done for about 20 bucks and half an hour of your time, and usually results in a pretty nice paddle. if youre lefty, find a good left blade (right blade broken), vice versa if youre a righ...

Re: Petite Nation, Quebec

On the subject of kids boats, I know Mohawk is looking into it, and I have one in the works right now due to demand from my 7 year old cousin. I think that kids boats may well be the next major boat innovation o come through. For a ten year old, tho, I think he might like the ion. He might grow out ...
