Re: Can someone school me on WW canoes please
Why don't you let the kid decide? At that age we still have an excellent grasp of what is over our heads. As I said, if you strt young, the learning curve isn't bad at all. A canoe can be outfitted so you won't get trapped, but it can be tightenee up if he starts feeling better. Definitely learn how...

Re: Can someone school me on WW canoes please
get him a canoe. trust me- i had one when i was 7. he'll love it. the learning curve really isnt that steep when youre young. PE holds up better, but boy is it heavy. if you go PE, the only boats he'll be able to horse around are an ion or a taureau. if you go royalex, look at the mohawk probe 11, o...

Re: Would you ever...
How heavy are you? And do you prefer primary stability or speed and handling? In my limited experience with the 2, the first you get with the l'edge, the second you get with the option. Fwiw, I go ahead and do it- on the off chance you didn't like it, it would be easy to sell a "like new" option and...

Re: Would you ever...
So, first of all, no I haven't. However, I was very close to doing so with the ion- yu see, not many people are willing to get out to let you try, theyre so much fun :D but then I found canoemid wanting to sell his, so I did get to paddle it first. I think if you know what you want, it's probably ok...

Re: Recommended bilge float switch?
That seems like a helluva lot of work....... Especially for something that's supposed to save effort. Just go with the normal switch. Also, whenever you Portage you'd have to disconnect the battery. And what happens of you swim and your boat keeps going down stream, pump pumping, until something. Ur...

Re: Why do Open boaters whine so much about kayakers??
kayaks get more cute girls on the water and that is good thing. for i am a man in a canoe. :-? I'm not convinced of that argument, most of the female kayakers I know are short, violent and acutely aware of the advances of hopeless males... All lovely people, but not the kind that would take kindly ...

Re: Pump placement for Blackfly?
Hmmmmmm..... That's not what I thought i saw in the one I got to sit in. In that case, the bet course would probably be to pull the saddle out and cut an opening for it. If thr curve is enough to worry you. Good luck.

Re: Pump placement for Blackfly?
No- the hull immediately behind the saddle is still flat, the same as under the saddle. It works fine. Remember- you can always just lean back a little.

Re: Pump placement for Blackfly?
Mine is tied/gorilla taped/contact cemented directly to the hull right behind the back of the saddle (under the airbag). The battery is carved into the bulkhead above my right knee. When I want to get the last of the water out, I either lean back or sit up on the thwart. Edit: just reread and realiz...

Re: Wood gunnels?
I would be interested to see a discussion of the advantages of wood vs vinyl in regards to strength, etc. I was always of the impression that overall they were about equal, but each had its weaknesses.

Re: Wood gunnels?
well, i'm going to have to replace the gunnels on this boat anyway. just to be clear- this is for a friends ocoee, which he wants me to help him repair- it has several problems. it also would probably become "mine"- his, but i would be the person who used it most of the time, if you know what i mean...

Re: Wood gunnels?
That's the first search function complaint here I think I've ever heard actually.... i SWEAR there was a thread a few weeks ago about how it didn't really work that well, and that was why so many people asked the same questions over and over... One trick is to realize that folks spell things differ...
