I currently paddle a Mohawk Scamp a very heavy OC1 the same boat I've had for years.

I want to get a new boat but I need a used boat. I paddle class 2 with some 3's and once in a while a 4. I'm getting up in years and pounds,and weight of boat is a big concern off the river. Use a scraper , with a draw knife or belt sander you could destroy your paddle quickly if you were not very careful. You will have a lot more control and it will go fairly quickly.
