Re: C1 stern squirt advice/critique

The easiest C1 stern squirts / cartwheels are essentially 'cleaned'. Don't rely too much on the paddle. Consider Jim Snyders concept of 'future water'. You are not so much as affecting a move as moving toward somewhere you want to be. For example; Onside stern squirts, initiate with a forward sweep ...

Re: New squirt C1 anyone?

Thanks for the nod Adam. I've looked at and paddled many shapes. I K1 squirt in a Ninja, which is in my opinion a work of genius. I recently kneeled in the boat on flatwater and was surprised to discover how stable it was. If the cockpit was 4" further forward I would have tried sinking it. There is...

New squirt C1 anyone?

I am considering a new design, however I will only embark on the project if I can sell enough to cover my costs. My goal is to achieve a true downtime C1 squirt. Are there at least a half a dozen people who would be in on a new boat? This will be for mystery zombies only.

Re: Eskimo Kendo or Salto: C1 conversion?

I just sold my Salto kayak- replaced it with a Stomper 90. I think the Salto would make a bad C1. It has poor enough secondary stability as a kayak. I don't know your size, but creekers have gone big, and for good reason. It is night and day staying on top of features as opposed to trying to punch t...

Re: Other wood species for gunwales

Yup- Cherry is straight as an arrow in the Great White North- and abundant. In fact, it is soon to be more abundant than Ash due to the Emerald Ash Borer. Ottawa alone lost 80,000 Ash trees last year. They are being decimated, so Cherry may end up being the go to species for gunwales.

Re: Other wood species for gunwales

I'm surprised nobody mentioned cherry which I've seen used on alot of canoes. I also used Sassafrass on the Departure because it takes a crazy bend nicely. Just be careful and wear an N95 mask- that nutmeg smell is carcinogenic.

Re: recycled boats?!

We had a huge pile of off cuts from the freshly made kayaks at Clearwater / Massive. They went back to the supplier on a regular basis to be recycled and we'd accept old boats to be thrown in the pile. It's not a problem as long as customers are willing to get them back to source. They come back as ...

Re: Whitewater Rating System - Is It OK As Is?

I'm a fan of the International Rating Sytem because it is simple, adaptable and easy to explain. Adding to it or changing it will simply confuse people. At the end of the day it comes down to the viscosity of your spit.

Re: What do you want to see in the future?

Materials development gets my vote- specifically if you investigate nanotechnology- perhaps developing a spray on or laminate nano carbon tube surface which can be applied to other materials such as fibreglass. This could have far reaching applications beyond our sport- imagine a virtually frictionl...
