I have one word: Backband. I had a great thighstrap setup, kneestraps, hip blocks, foam backrest, the works, but it wasn't until I added a backband that I really felt locked into the boat. It helps a lot to have something holding you forward into the outfitting that's holding you down.

FIBArk, in Salida CO has been going on since 1949. That's the oldest one I know of. It started out as a down river race, which is still going on today, but now also has slalom races (since 1953), raft race (since 1976) and a rodeo (since 1989). All in all, a fun event. More on FIBArk history http://...

Actually, I've gotten the whole boat under a few times- when it's full and I try and do an ender at a spot like tumblehome, it sometimes mysteries unintentionally. I can also stern squirt it on a strong eddy line. I took it down the gauley last weekend, and it' s a heck of a lot of fun both for play...

I know some people will shun me for this...
I know that some people will shun me for cutting up a perfectly good Spanish fly, but let's face it, this looks like a heck of a lot more fun: http://www.chasingrain.com/cutenews/data/upimages/septupdate2.jpg I took 17 3/16" out of the center and welded it back together. So far it seems to be holdin...

I talked with Kristine again today, and based on 1) The fact that some talk had been made of doing an alternate trials, 2) Nothing firm being set and made known as far as doing an alternate trial, and 3) the fact that the "normal" team trials were orginally planned and advertised for "all classes ex...

OC-1 freestyle team trails
US freestyle team trials are coming up on wednesday on the Ottawa, and there seems to be some confusion/question/debate over whether or not OC-1 trials will be part of it or done at a later date/other location. I'm in favor of doing them with the rest of the team trials, since I'm here, and hauled m...

The world cup website is http://www.wcfkc.com/index.php
The events are open, so you don't have to qualify for a team to do them. Let's hope that some more c-1 boaters also register, since there are currently on 5 signed up

At current, it doesn't appear that there will be an OC event in the world cup. I'd be in favor of having one, but I really don't know if we'd get the turnout, and it's expensive- $90 per event, or $200 for all three events, or if you're doing it as an additional class, it's $45 per event. (since I'm...

To the best of my knowledge, Pyranha is still making canoes, but not very are being brought into the US (demand for the kayaks is very high right now, and a Prelude would take up the space of several Burns in a container.....) I BELIEVE, (but I'm not sure) that there are still some Preludes in the A...

Everybody went to socialize and see the "newest" offerings As a kid I always looked forward to the boat show..in addition to seeing all the new boats from the likes of John Sweet, John Berry, Jim Stuart, etc. they showed whitewater movies and slide shows...it sounds kind of boring by today's standa...

Alden, I'm pretty sure that old guy Steve is gonna kick my butt. He beat me by about 2.5 minutes last year. Something tells me that slalom training is better preperation for the Cheat Race than rodeo training (if you believe such a thing even exists). Seriously, you'd probably have a good time if yo...
