Strip and refinish Royalite?
I'm planning to recondition my Spark sometime this millenium, so this may be the first in a series of questions.... The outer sticker (the Mossy Oak decal) is beginning to peel, especially around wear points on the bottom. I've repainted to cover the ABS, but it doesn't look that great and it's only...

Re: Removing skin from minicell
Thanks, all. I've had this stuff for a while, but I think it was the only full thickness black foam that I could find online. If anyone has a source, I'd like to hear it. I don't have access to a bandsaw set up for resawing, so I'll probably just go with a belt sander. I may try a power planer on a ...

Removing skin from minicell
What's the best way that everyone's found for removing the skin from full thicknesses of minicell? I have an orbital sander and disk grinder, but I think that I ended up going at it with a sanding block last time. I'm just building up a pedestal, but I might buy tools to make the next projects (ie, ...

Re: Changing Sides
I'm not a side switcher, I'm ambidextrous!
Kidding aside, I try to be decent on both sides. I'd rather have to remember to practice my offsides than have to rely on a weak offside all of the time.

Re: Cockpit stretching questions
Nothing like persistence, then. Didn't want to overdo things, and it sounds like I just need to keep going until all the areas with stress have moved.
This might be a good time for a new gun. I've been using my plastic welder in order to localize the heat, but it is a little weak.

Cockpit stretching questions
There are several threads from way back where the Necky Zip is recommended as a conversion. I'm doing one right now. I'm going to have to widen the rim (a LOT) to get my knees into the chines, and this means that I'm having to raise the rim first so that the rim can ride over the gap. I'm doing this...

Re: Drilling Composite
Applying blue masking tape first helps keep wood from tearing out. Has anyone tried it for gelcoat?

Re: The end of ESQUIF..... :(
I wonder if we might see a strategic step back. Royalex made manufacturing easier, but the boats were on the heavy side. How much more expensive is it to make and ship composite boats over vacuum forming and shipping Royalex?

Instructor training that allows for small boats?
Does anyone know of any icanoe nstructor training that is friendly to small boats. It may be a while before I can attend, but I'd like to be ready if someone asks me to help start an all city youth surf and slalom team... or something like that.

Re: Loose Dagger factory outfitting
Larry, you have it right. The blocks are the pillars; I just couldn't think of the word when I posted. It just seemed strange that the whole outfitting was held in at the front. I'm a little big for the boat, so the rim is acting as the hipblocks, at least for now.
GSG, I'll get the pictures.

Loose Dagger factory outfitting
I picked up a Redline with factory outfitting. The minicell blocks in the bow and stern are loose, as is the back part of the pedestal. A few quick questions: 1) It's being held in and held in place by the screws. I need to glue the blocks back in with Weldwood red can, right? 2)The blocks no longer...

Re: Jackson Karma Unlimited
No problem here with any tangents, for what it's worth! I'm only paddling open boats right now and I'm still very much bench racing the idea of a long boat.

Re: Jackson Karma Unlimited
Yeah, maybe I should have been more clear that I was asking about long boats. The Unlimited is wider and it looks like it has more of an edge than the other long boats, and that seems pretty interesting to me. Basically, I'd like to fit out something that is fast and carves well. I'm open to other s...

Jackson Karma Unlimited
Has anyone converted one of these, or thought about it? I know that the Greenboat and LL Stinger have been done. It seems like the Jackson might be a little slower but might have a more primary stability, and it looks like it has more of an edge to the hull.

Re: Removing OLD adhesive on vinylester hull
Thanks y'all. I'm not sure what type of adhesive was used. Everything looks original, so it might be a good idea to get in touch with Kaz. The glue has softened in water but it doesn't want to come off. The fabric is intact in these areas, so I'm tempted to just remove what I can and then just dry i...
