Re: any of you have a whitesell whirlwind?

Sandra, I think you could paddle a Viper 11 fine, but since you're looking for a boat with a more rounded bottom you might want to put a Bell Prodigy on your list as well.

Suggestions for a New OC1

I paddled a Shaman for a couple years and liked it. I paddle a Viper-11 now and like it better. Another canoe you may want to try is the Prodigy. I tried a Prodigy X out and liked it as good as a Shaman and if it had been a foot shorter like the regular Prodigy would have liked it better. Having sai...

I owned a Shaman for a couple years and really liked it. I bought a Viper 11 back in November and love it. The only thing I miss about the Shaman is the speed, it's one of the fastest whitewater canoes I've paddled. The Viper took a little getting use to but a month or two of class 2 during the wint...

Mowhawk back in production and selling canoes.

Looks like Mohawk is already producing canoes and has some ready to sell.

Building a bulkhead saddle for an open canoe.

I'm getting ready to start building a bulkhead saddle for an open canoe. I'm going to order the mini-cell from Sweet's. Which is better to use the L-200 or the M-200. The M-200 is supposed to be a little stiffer. I was hoping someone who had used both would offer some advice if one was any better th...

Hey Ya'll, I paddle the Haw when I get a chance myself. I live in Northern Moore County about 45 minutes from the Haw. I also have a pretty good class 2+ run on Deep River you can check out sometime. Scott

If you're interested in stiffening up the Shaman try converting the outfitting to bulk-head. I modified the Mohawk outfitting by adding foam across the front of the saddle for thigh braces an adding an extra thwart. It's a little heavier, but you can tell it's stiffer. I'm happy with the set-up. Scott

I'm impressed with David's and Bill's fairness and honesty, I look forward to paddling with you guys. It sounds like Esquif will handle the problems. It's funny Craig should mention R-lite, some people may remember the problems a guy had with a Mohawk Shaman. I have the very boat that was wrote abou...

Shaman

I like my Shaman, if I had to buy a canoe it would probably be another Shaman. I like the speed, stability, and manuverability, but it's probably a little wetter than an Outrage. I think Mohawk may have put bigger decks on the Shaman since my boat was made, so the new ones are probably better. Scott

I have an Old Town Tripper I bought in 86. It's been stored outside on the ground in the sun for 19 years and is still solid. I've had to put skid plates on the ends and have replaced all the wood. I just hope all my other canoes hold up that good. Scott
